Andrea Motis
Andrea Motis (born May 9, 1995) is a Spanish jazz singer and trumpeter who sings in Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese and English. Biography From the age of seven, Motis developed musically at the Municipal School of Music of Sant Andreu, a neighborhood of Barcelona, becoming the school's lead trumpeter and later saxophonist. In 2007, at twelve, she began to collaborate with the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, led by teacher and musician Joan Chamorro. In 2010, at the age of fifteen, she recorded an album of jazz standards, ''Joan Chamorro Presents Andrea Motis''. In 2012, she went on to record a second album, ''Feeling Good''. She made her major label debut with ''Emotional Dance'' (Impulse!, 2017). Sant Andreu Jazz Band
Sant Andreu Jazz Band is a youth jazz band from Barcelona, featuring 7- to 20-year-olds. The bandleader is Joan Chamorro. History The band was founded in 2006 at Escola Municipal de Música de Sant Andreu. The band has performed at numerous concerts and festivals in Catalonia, and other regions of Spain as well as in neighbouring countries. Scott Hamilton (musician)
Scott Hamilton (born September 12, 1954) is an American jazz tenor saxophonist associated with swing and straight-ahead jazz. His eldest son, Shō Īmura, is the vocalist of the Japanese rock band Okamoto's. Career He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. Hamilton began to play the tenor saxophone at the age of sixteen. In 1976, he moved to New York City and played with Benny Goodman at the end of the decade. Most often he has been the leader of bands. He has worked with Ruby Braff and Warren Vache. He recorded his first significant jazz album as a leader for Chiaroscuro in 1977. The same year, he proceeded to record his first album for Concord, with whom he maintained a long recording career as a solo act, and as a member of the Concord Jazz All Stars. He accompanied singer Rosemary Clooney in the studio and on the road for a decade. During the 1980s, he toured Japan, Sweden, the UK, and performed at the Grande Parade du Jazz in Nice, France. Sant Andreu () is one of the ten districts of Barcelona since its redistricting in 1984. It was named after the former municipality of Sant Andreu de Palomar, which was the largest in the area and now makes up the bulk of the neighbourhood bearing its name, as well as part of the neighboring district of Nou Barris. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. As jazz spread around the world, it drew on national, regional, and local musical cultures, which gave rise to different styles.
