Veszprém (; german: Weißbrunn, sl, Belomost) is one of the oldest urban areas in Hungary, and a city with county rights. It lies approximately north of the Lake Balaton. It is the administrative center of the county (comitatus or 'megye') of the same name. Etymology The name of the city originates from a Slavic personal name ''Bezprem'' or ''Bezprym'' (Proto-Slavic ''Bezprěmъ'') meaning "stubborn", "self-confident, not willing to retreat". ''Besprem'' (before 1002), ''Vezprem'' (1086), ''Bezpremensis'' (1109). The form ''Vezprem'' originates in early medieval scribal habits and frequent exchange of ''B'' and ''V'' under the influence of Greek. ''Red Psalm'' ( hu, Még kér a nép) is a 1972 Hungarian film by Miklós Jancsó. The literal translation of the title is "''And the People Still Ask''", a quote from a poem by Sándor Petőfi. Plot ''Red Psalm'' centers around a small peasants' revolt in 1890. It draws inspiration from the Hungarian revolutionary movements of the 19th century, including the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, of which Sándor Petőfi, the poet whose work the film's Hungarian title references, was a participant. Background Like most of Jancsó's best-known works, ''Red Psalm'' is loosely based on events from Hungarian history. Shot in very long, carefully choreographed takes, the film features only 26 shots. Silence and Cry ( hu, Csend és kiáltás) is a 1968 Hungarian drama film directed by Miklós Jancsó. Plot In 1919, after just a few months of communist rule, the Hungarian Republic of Councils was dissolved by a nationalist counter-revolution. Admiral Horthy, leader of the nationalists, assumed power as the Regent of Hungary. Hungarian Red Army soldiers were relentlessly pursued by the secret police and Hungarian Royal Gendarmerie and faced summary execution. One, István Cserzi, has fled to the Great Hungarian Plain and taken refuge on a farm run by two women. Due to their help and that of a childhood friend who is a commandant of the local Gendarmarie, István is relatively safe if he keeps out of sight. However, discovering that the women are slowly poisoning the husband of one of them and his mother, the farm's owners, István must decide whether to denounce them to the authorities at the likely cost of his own life.
