Andi Sex Gang
Andi Sex Gang (born Andreas McElligott) is the founder, vocalist and main songwriter of the band Sex Gang Children who were a prominent act in the gothic rock movement of the 1980s. McElligot lived in London squats before entering music, and was involved in leftist activism. He formed the band in early 1982. In the late 1980s, McElligot obtained the rights to the material he had released with the band and controls its licensing. Over the years, he had a number of conflicts with a number of record companies. In 2011, a documentary, ''Bastard Art'', by Vince Corkadel presented an overview of his career. ROIR
ROIR (pronounced "roar"), or Reachout International Records, is a New York City-based independent record label founded in 1979 by Neil Cooper. Background ROIR was founded the same year that the Sony Walkman launched, and initially, the label exclusively distributed its releases in cassette format. Much of the label's catalog is now available in CD and LP formats. ROIR released its first cassette, by James Chance and the Contortions, in 1981. In 1982, ROIR released the compilation album ''New York Thrash'', documenting the hardcore punk scene in the New York metropolitan area. It has since become a definitive album in the genre. Most of ROIR's early catalog consists of punk rock and no wave releases by artists such as Suicide, Glenn Branca, and Lydia Lunch. Recreational Records was a British record label set up in 1981 by the Bristol record shop and distributor Revolver Records. Originally formed as an independent record label with its own distribution as part of The Cartel (record distributor), the Cartel. Marianne Evelyn Gabriel Faithfull (born 29 December 1946) is an English singer and actress. Castle Communications, also known as Castle Music, was a British independent record label and home video distributor founded in 1983 by Terry Shand, Cliff Dane, and Jon Beecher. Christian Death is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles County, California, in 1979 by Rozz Williams. With major line-up changes over the years, Christian Death has retained "a relentlessly confrontational stand against organized religion and conventional morality". Williams was eventually joined by guitarist Rikk Agnew of the band Adolescents, James McGearty on bass guitar and George Belanger on drums. Clay Records
Clay Records was an independent record label founded by Mike Stone in 1980 and based in a record shop in Stoke-on-Trent, England. History Clay's first signing was local Stoke punk band Discharge who released the ''Realities of War'' single in April 1980. Stone distributed the single out of the boot of his car but it still made it into the top 10 of the indie chart in the music magazine Sounds. The label went on to sign artists including Play Dead, The Lurkers, Demon and G.B.H. Members of Clay went on to form Jungle Records in 1984. In 1996, the label's distributor, Pinnacle Entertainment, went under, resulting in Mike Stone subsequently lost £25,000. This led him to close the label in 1996.
