Andhare Alo (1922 Film)
''Andhare Alo'' (Beam of Light) also called ''The Influence of Love'' was a 1922 silent film from the Bengali Film industry and a debut production from the Taj Mahal Films, Calcutta. Based on a short story of the same name "Andhare Alo" (Beam of Light) by Saratchandra Chatterjee, it was directed by Sisir Bhaduri and Naresh Mitra. The cinematographer was Noni Gopal Sanyal. The cast included Sisir Kumar Bhaduri, Naresh Mitra, Jogesh Choudhury and Durga Rani. The film was appreciated by the critics for its melodramatic content and was claimed to be a "huge hit" at the box-office. The story focuses on a love triangle, where the man Satyendra, marries due to family obligations and then leaves his eleven-year-old young bride called Radharani behind, and gets involved with a more mature and modern courtesan. Sisir Bhaduri
Shishir Kumar Bhaduri or Sisir Kumar Bhaduri (2 October 1889 – 30 June 1959) was an Indian stage actor and theatre founder, who commonly referred to as the pioneer of modern Bengali theatre, where he was an actor, director, playwright and even scenic designer. He was survived by one son named, Asoke Kumar Bhaduri. Dhruba Kumar Bhaduri and Shubha Kumar Bhaduri were two of his grandsons. After Girish Chandra Ghosh, he introduced realism and naturalism to theatre. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour by the Government of India in 1959. He refused to take Padma award, saying that if he takes the award, it will send wrong signal that government have helped promoting theatre culture in the country. Naresh Mitra
Naresh Mitra (18 May 1888 – 1968) was a Bengali actor, director and screenwriter. Career Naresh Mitra was born in 1888 in Agartala, Tripura, British India. He studied law from the University of Calcutta. He started his acting career in 1922 in Minerva Theatre. In 1923, Mitra joined Star Theatre in Kolkata and starred in several plays mostly in the role of anti hero. He worked and acted in number of films of Taj Mahal company, East India Film and Kali Films. Mitra directed ''Devdas'' in silent version produced by Eastern Film Syndicate in 1928. This is the first film adaptation of Devdas, the novel of Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay. He directed few films starring Uttam Kumar such as ''Bou Thakuranir Haat'', ''Annapurnar Mandir''. A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films.
