Andersonia (plant)
''Andersonia'' is a genus of mostly small, evergreen shrubs in the family Ericaceae and is endemic to the Southwest Botanical Province in Western Australia. Description Plants in the genus ''Andersonia'' are small shrubs, (apart from '' A. axilliflora'' and '' A. echinocephala'' that grow to a height of several metres) some are subshrubs and a few, compact cushion plants, but all seem to require a fairly open habitat. The leaves resemble those of monocotyledons in having a sheathing leaf base and parallel leaf veins, although the veins arise from a single trace in the base of the leaf. The leaves are spirally arranged and overlap at the base and increase in size, upwards from the base of the stem, but vary greatly in size and shape. The flowers are erect, usually brightly coloured and conspicuous, the five sepals egg-shaped to linear and often similarly coloured to the petals. The petals are joined at the base, forming a bell-shaped to cylindrical tube with five lobes that are sho ...

Early life and education Born in Aberdeen, Anderson later studied at the University of Edinburgh, where he was tutored by William Cullen (professor of medicine and chemistry) and John Hope (professor of botany and materia medica). Fellow Aberdonian William Forsyth briefly employed him at the Chelsea Physic Garden in London, prior to Anderson's emigration to New York in 1774, where he stayed with his brother John, a printer. After a petition was lodged by physicians William Wright and Thomas Clarke of Jamaica in 1798, Anderson was awarded an honorary 'Degree of Doctor in Physick' from the University of St. Andrews. Lindl
John Lindley FRS (5 February 1799 – 1 November 1865) was an English botanist, gardener and orchidologist. Early years Born in Catton, near Norwich, England, John Lindley was one of four children of George and Mary Lindley. George Lindley was a nurseryman and pomologist and ran a commercial nursery garden. Although he had great horticultural knowledge, the undertaking was not profitable and George lived in a state of indebtedness. As a boy he would assist in the garden and also collected wild flowers he found growing in the Norfolk countryside. Lindley was educated at Norwich School. He would have liked to go to university or to buy a commission in the army but the family could not afford either. He became Belgian agent for a London seed merchant in 1815. At this time Lindley became acquainted with the botanist William Jackson Hooker who allowed him to use his botanical library and who introduced him to Sir Joseph Banks who offered him employment as an assistant in his herba ...

Australian Plant Census
The Australian Plant Census (APC) provides an online interface to currently accepted, published, scientific names of the vascular flora of Australia, as one of the output interfaces of the national government Integrated Biodiversity Information System (IBIS – an Oracle Co. relational database management system). The Australian National Herbarium, Australian National Botanic Gardens, Australian Biological Resources Study and the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria coordinate the system. The Australian Plant Census interface provides the currently accepted scientific names, their synonyms, illegitimate, misapplied and excluded names, as well as state distribution data. Each item of output hyperlinks to other online interfaces of the information system, including the Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) and the Australian Plant Image Index (APII). The outputs of the Australian Plant Census interface provide information on all native and naturalised vascular plant taxa of Australi ...
