Ancient Journeys
''Ancient Journeys: A Vision of the New World'' is an album by German cross-cultural new-age band Cusco, released in 2000. Released three years after the previous album, this one peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top New Age Albums chart. This album continues somewhat in the flavor of Apurimac III, but is dedicated to ancient journeys of adventure and discovery. The musical concepts reflect on ancient rhythms and melodies, and depict ancient kingdoms, sea voyages, conquests and land explorations that cross continents. Cusco (band)
Cusco was a German cross-cultural new-age music band named after the Peruvian city of Cusco, which was once the capital of the Inca Empire. The band's music contains influences from music around the world, with an emphasis on South American flute sounds and melodies. Cusco's melodic and energetic music is a fusion of modern and ethnic styles with influences from classical music and rock music sensibilities. Most of the ethnic instruments were keyboard-generated. The band was led by founders Michael Holm (Lothar Bernhard Walter; 1943–) and Kristian Schultze (1945–2011). Michael Holm, already a successful vocal artist, sought to make a musical tribute to ancient cultures. He and Kristian Schultze, formerly a member of the jazz band Passport, shared musical and historical interests. In 1979, they formed Cusco, and released their first album in 1980. Higher Octave
Higher Octave Music is a sub-label imprint of Narada Productions. Since 2013, it is part of Universal Music Group's Capitol Music Group, which is located in Los Angeles. History Higher Octave was acquired by Virgin Records on behalf of EMI in 1997. In 2004, Higher Octave's offices in Malibu, California, were closed and the label was folded into Narada Productions at a reduced level of staffing and activity while retaining its imprint as a sub-label of Narada. Two years later, Higher Octave moved to New York along with Narada and all of its related sub-labels to become part of EMI's merging all of its adult-focused music into The Blue Note Label Group. The beats, chants, and flute works depict a Native American musical style, though are made more accessible to modern ears through the use of overtly synthesized instrumentation and percussive rhythms. Inner Journeys
''Inner Journeys: Myth + Legends'' is an album by German cross-cultural new-age band Cusco, released in 2003. The album peaked at #6 on the Billboard Top New Age albums chart. With this album, the band simultaneously explores new territory by covering Greek Mythology with its musical concepts, and also revisits a more classic Cusco sound by reintroducing the flute sounds of the early years ( Water Stories) and the strings, guitars, and atmospheres of their mid-career commercial high points of Cusco 2000 and Apurimac II. Sonically, this album does continue to develop a very natural-sounding instrumentation that began to appear with Ancient Journeys, though it uses them to create a more mysterious vibe than that of the previous album. Also, Inner Journeys utilizes occasional backing vocals in a style previously unexplored by the band, giving this album a unique flavor among Cusco albums. Ottmar Liebert
Ottmar Liebert (born 1 February 1959) is a German guitarist, songwriter and producer best known for his Spanish-influenced music. A five-time Grammy Award nominee, Liebert has received 38 Gold and Platinum certifications in the United States, as well as certifications in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. His debut album '' Nouveau Flamenco'' (1990) was certified Platinum in the United States. Early life Ottmar Liebert was born 1 February 1959 in Cologne, West Germany, to a Chinese-German father and a Hungarian mother. As a child, he spent most of his time travelling throughout Europe and Asia with his family. He began playing classical guitar at 11, and studying flamenco guitar at 14, after he "found a Flamenco LP in the bargain bin at a local supermarket." Kristian Schultze
Kristian Schultze (21 January 1945 – 22 November 2011) was one-half of the German new-age band Cusco. Schultze partnered with Michael Holm and the two produced numerous new-age albums. The two met in late 1970s, when they discovered that they shared a similar interest in pre-colonial America. Schultze also released a number of solo albums. Biography Kristian Schultze was the son of Norbert Schultze, the composer of "Lili Marleen", and Iwa Wanja, a Bulgarian actress and singer. He grew up in Hamburg, Rio de Janeiro and Berlin, and got his musical education at Konservatorium and Musikhochschule Berlin, Wiener Akademie and Jazzschool Graz. He moved to Munich in 1968 where he worked as composer, arranger, producer and musician for various artists, for movies, television and theater. A musical keyboard is the set of adjacent depressible levers or keys on a musical instrument.
