The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is the supreme representative body of the Republic of Moldova, the only state legislative authority, being a unicameral structure composed of 101 elected MPs on lists, for a period of 4 years. Parliament is elected by universal vote, equal directly, secret and freely expressed. The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is elected by the Parliament, with a minimum of 52 votes. The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova, on a proposal of the Central Electoral Commission, decides to validate or invalidate the mandate of the Member of Parliament. Ungheni
Ungheni () is a municipality in Moldova. With a population of 35,157, it is the seventh largest town in Moldova and the seat of Ungheni District. There is a bridge across the Prut and a border checkpoint to Romania. There is another border town with the same name in Romania (Ungheni, Iași), on the other side of the Prut River. History The first historical mention of Ungheni dates to 20 August 1462. A railway between Ungheni and Chișinău was built in 1875 by Russia in preparation for the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878). After World War II, the rail route through Ungheni became the main connection between the USSR and Romania. The Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic ( ro, Republica Sovietică Socialistă Moldovenească, Moldovan Cyrillic: ) was one of the 15 republics of the Soviet Union which existed from 1940 to 1991. Liberal Party ( ro, Partidul Liberal, PL) is a conservative-liberal political party in Moldova. The president of the party is the former Mayor of Chișinău, Dorin Chirtoacă. History The party was established under the name Party of Reform ( ro, Partidul Reformei) in 1993 by Anatol Șalaru. In 1997, Mihai Ghimpu was elected chairman. Until April 2005, the party had a Christian-democratic electoral platform.
