The status of women in Bangladesh has been subject to many important changes over the past few centuries. Bangladeshi women have made significant progress since the country's independence in 1971, where women in the region experienced increased political empowerment for women, better job prospects, increased opportunities of education and the adoption of new laws to protect their rights through Bangladesh's policies in the last four decades. Still, women in Bangladesh continue to struggle to achieve equal status to men due to societal norms that enforce restrictive gender roles as well as poor implementation of laws that were set to protect women. Shahnaz Munni
Shahnaz Munni (Bengali শাহনাজ মুন্নী, born 1969) is a Bangladeshi journalist, poet and writer. Since January 2016, she has been chief news editor with the Dhaka-based television channel News24. She also takes a special interest in children's welfare. Biography Born on 8 February 1969 in Dhaka, Munni attended Dhaka's Holy Cross College before studying social sciences at the University of Dhaka in 1994. On graduation, her career as a journalist started with Ekushey Television at the beginning in 1999. She then joined ATN Bangla as a senior reporter in 2003 before moving to News 24 as a special correspondent. In 2016, she was promoted to senior news editor. Mushtari Shafi
Begum Mushtari Shafi (15 January 1938 – 20 December 2021) was a Bangladeshi writer, entrepreneur, women's leader and social organiser. Life and career Shafi was born on 15 January 1938 in West Bengal of the then British India. Her ancestral home is in Faridpur District. Her father's workplace was in Kolkata during the time of her birth. She worked as a ''Shobdo Sainik'' at the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Shafi was selected an honorary fellow of Bangla Academy in 2016 for her contribution to the Bangladesh Liberation War. Shafi died on 20 December 2021, at the age of 83 in Dhaka. Niaz Zaman () is a Bangladeshi translator and a supernumerary professor at the University of Dhaka. She was awarded 2016 Bangla Academy Literary Award in the translation category. Quazi Rosy
Quazi Rosy (also spelled Quazy Rosy; 1 January 1949 – 20 February 2022) was a Bangladeshi poet who served also as member of the parliament. She is known for ''Pothghat Manusher Naam'' and ''Amar Piraner Kono Map Nei''. Early life Rosy was born on 1 January 1949 in Satkhira District of the then East Pakistan. Her father was Quazi Shahidul Islam. She obtained her Bachelor and master's degree in Bangla Literature from the University of Dhaka. Career Rosy started her career by joining in the government service and retired as an Officer from Press Information Department in 2007. She was elected to parliament from reserved seats (Seat no. 41) for women after the 10th Bangladeshi parliamentary election held on 5 January 2014. Maleka Begum
Maleka Begum (born 1944) is a Bangladeshi feminist, author, academic. Biography Begum was born in 1944 to Abdul Aziz and Fahima Begum. Begum completed her secondary education from Sher-E-Bangla Girls' High School. She earned her B.A. and M.A. from University of Dhaka in Bengali literature and Sociology in 1965 and 1966 and in 1968 (sociology). Begum teaches at Central Women's University and visiting faculty of Department of Women and Gender Studies at the University of Dhaka.
