An Instinct For Detection
''An Instinct for Detection'' is the debut studio album by British electronic act Lionrock, fronted by Mancunian producer Justin Robertson. Released in April 1996 in the United Kingdom by Deconstruction Records and in 1997 in the United States by Time Bomb Recordings, the album presents an eclectic sound, incorporating elements of house, techno, dub and rock, and was inspired by city life. The character of Sherlock Holmes also proved an influence, with film dialogue samples dispersed throughout the record. Though largely instrumental, some tracks feature vocals from MC Buzz B. The group promoted the album with an elaborate tour of the UK that, like the album, mixed live and electronic instrumentation. Fuelled by the singles "Packet of Peace", "Fire Up the Shoesaw" and "Straight at Yer Head", two of which became British hits, the album reached number 30 on the UK Albums Chart and received critical acclaim for its varied sound. Lionrock
Lionrock was a British big beat group, comprising record producer Justin Robertson, MC Buzz B, and producer, engineer, programmer and synthesist Roger Lyons. Lyons replaced recording engineer Mark Stagg in 1995. Their biggest chart success came in 1998, when "Rude Boy Rock" reached the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart. The group formed in 1992, and signed to Deconstruction Records in 1993. Their song "Rude Boy Rock" was featured in the video game '' FIFA '99'', as well as on the soundtrack to the 1999 film ''Idle Hands''. This song samples "Nimrod" (1965) by Jamaican reggae band Skatalites, later sampled by Damian Marley on the tune "All Night" from the album ''Welcome to Jamrock'' from 2005. A cult following refers to a group of fans who are highly dedicated to some person, idea, object, movement, or work, often an artist, in particular a performing artist, or an artwork in some medium. John Barry Prendergast (3 November 1933 – 30 January 2011) was a British composer and conductor of film music. Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its diaspora. Studio One (record Label)
Studio One is one of Jamaica's most renowned record labels and recording studios; it has been described as the Motown of Jamaica. The record label was involved with most of the major music movements in Jamaica during the 1960s and 1970s, including ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub and dancehall. History Studio One was founded by Clement "Coxsone" Dodd in 1954, and the first recordings were cut in 1963 on Brentford Road in Kingston. The Shamen
The Shamen ( ) were a Scottish psychedelic band, formed in 1985 in Aberdeen, who became a chart-topping British electronic dance music act by the early 1990s. The founding members were Colin Angus, Derek McKenzie and Keith McKenzie. Peter Stephenson joined shortly after to take over on keyboards from Angus. Several other people were later in the band.
