An Affair Of The Skin
''An Affair of the Skin'' is a 1963 drama film written and directed by Ben Maddow. It is a complex story of the romantic entanglements of its several characters as seen through the eyes of a black woman photographer. Shortly after its release, the film was harshly reviewed in ''Time'' and ''The New York Times''. Woody Haut's more recent characterization is more sympathetic: Maddow is reported as feeling that the initial release of ''An Affair of the Skin'' had been rushed for financial reasons. In 1973, 10 years after its initial release, Maddow re-edited and released it again under the title ''Love As Disorder''. As described by John Hagan, "An offscreen narration by the photographer was added to establish her as an observer: a participant in the action, but also a caustic chronicler of it. Ben Maddow
Ben Maddow (born David Wolff, August 7, 1909 in Passaic, New Jersey – October 9, 1992 in Los Angeles, California) was an American screenwriter and documentarian from the 1930s through the 1970s. Educated at Columbia University, Maddow began his career working within the American documentary movement in the 1930s. In 1936 he co-founded the short-lived left-wing newsreel '' The World Today''. Under the pseudonym of David Wolff, Maddow co-wrote the screenplay to the Paul Strand–Leo Hurwitz documentary landmark, '' Native Land'' (1942). He earned his first feature screenplay credit with '' Framed'' (1947). Will Lee
William Lee (born William Lubovsky; August 6, 1908 – December 7, 1982) was an American actor who appeared in numerous television and film roles, but was best known for playing Mr. Hooper, the original store proprietor of the eponymous Hooper's Store. He was one of the four original human characters on ''Sesame Street'', from the show's debut in November 1969 until his death on December 7, 1982 at the age of 74.
