The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders,'' which aired in 2008 (in order of first appearance). All characters were introduced by executive producer Diederick Santer, who introduced four characters in January: #Mr Lister, Mr. Lister (Nick Wilton), a new market inspector; Christian Clarke (John Partridge (actor), John Partridge), the brother of Jane Beale (Laurie Brett); and two members of the Branning family, Branning family, #Selina Branning, Selina (Daisy Beaumont) and #Penny Branning, Penny (Mia McKenna-Bruce). In March, he introduced #Jalil Iqbal, Jalil Iqbal (Jan Uddin), a new love interest for Shabnam Masood (Zahra Ahmadi).
