Amy Grant
Amy Lee Grant (born November 25, 1960) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. She began in contemporary Christian music (CCM) before crossing over to pop music in the 1980s and 1990s. She has been referred to as "The Queen of Christian Pop". she had sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, won six Grammy Awards, 22 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, and her album was the first Christian album to go platinum. She was honored with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006 for her contributions to the entertainment industry and in 2022, she was announced as a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors. Grant made her debut in her 20s gaining fame in Christian music during the 1980s with such hits as "Father's Eyes", " El Shaddai", and "Angels". ''Unguarded'' is the seventh studio album by Christian music singer Amy Grant, released in 1985 on A&M Records. It is Grant's first album released by A&M. When ''Unguarded'' was released in 1985, Grant was perhaps the most popular star in contemporary Christian music, recording songs with religious lyrics in the pop/rock style of the day. With this album, however, the religious content of the lyrics was scaled back as compared with her two previous regular studio albums, ''Age to Age'' and '' Straight Ahead''. The album features Grant's biggest worldwide hit, " Baby Baby" and was certified 5× platinum in the United States, selling over five million copies. Crossover is a term applied to musical works or performers who appeal to different types of audience. "El Shaddai" (sometimes styled "El-Shaddai") is a contemporary Christian music song. It was written by Michael Card and John Thompson, using direct quotes from scripture as their inspiration, and recorded by Card on his 1981 debut album, ''Legacy''. However, the best known version of the song was by singer Amy Grant, whose rendition was recorded in 1982 on her platinum-certified album ''Age to Age''. The title comes from a Judaic name of God, usually translated as "God Almighty" (see El Shaddai). Approximately half the lyrics of the chorus are in the Hebrew language, which is rather unusual for a contemporary Christian song.
