Amsterdam G's was a semi-professional ice hockey team in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was founded in 2011 by the group that formerly operated the Amstel Tijgers before it ceased operations in 2010. The team played at the Jaap Edenhal. It participated in the Dutch Cup and the defunct Eredivise league. They were known in their first year of operations as the "Amsterdam Capitals", but changed names after finding a corporate sponsor in 2012. Ron Berteling
Ron Berteling (born 6 September 1957) is a Dutch retired ice hockey player and coach. He represented the Netherlands ice hockey at the 1980 Winter Olympics, and served as captain of the Netherlands men's national ice hockey team from 1982 to 1993. He appeared in 14 Ice Hockey World Championships, and holds the record of 213 games played for the national team. He played in 26 seasons of the Eredivisie, competing the Netherlands' top league for the Amsterdam Tigers and the Rotterdam Panda's. He was named the league's most valuable player for the 1987–88 season, won four Eredivisie titles, five Dutch Cups as a player and a sixth as a coach. He received the Order of Orange-Nassau in 1994, was made the namesake of the Ron Berteling Schaal in 2007, and received the Torriani Award from the International Ice Hockey Federation in 2020. Jaap Edenhal
Jaap Edenhal (sometimes anglicized as Jaap Eden Hall) is a 4,500-capacity indoor ice rink located adjacent to Jaap Eden baan in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is named after Dutch speed skater Jaap Eden. The Amsterdam Tigers are its primary tenant. The facility opened in 1973 and has also been used as a concert venue. The Jaap Edenhal was created by rebuilding the hockey rink next to the track. In addition to being the home rink of the Amsterdam Tigers of the BeNe League, and formerly the home of the Amsterdam G's in the now defunct Eredivise, the Jaap Edenhal was used for the national ice-skating championships in 1974. Amstel Tijgers
Amsterdam Tigers are an ice hockey team in Amsterdam, Netherlands, playing in the First Division. History The Tigers existed in various guises from their foundation in 1963 until 2010 when the professional team folded, leaving only the amateur and junior teams. The team reformed in time for the 2014-15 Eerste Divisie season. The following season they moved up to the newly formed BeNe League, where they remained until the 2019-20 season. Ahead of the 2019-20 BeNe Season, the Tigers announced they would be leaving the league and joining the Dutch First Division. Upon reformation, the team was known as Amstel Tijgers Amsterdam before changing in 2017 to its present name. The amateur and junior teams have kept the Tijgers moniker. Dutch Cup (ice Hockey)
The Dutch Cup, better known in Dutch as the "Beker" or "Bekercompetitie", is the national ice hockey cup in the Netherlands. It was held from 1938 to 1939, and 1971-present. The Dutch Cup is usually an autumn competition that precedes or runs simultaneously with the regular season of the BeNe League, the Dutch and Belgian semi-professional ice hockey league. The format of the Dutch Cup competition is determined before each season and can vary depending on the number of teams competing. In 2011, the format consisted of: * a 16-game preliminary round-robin, followed by * a three-game playoff round-robin among the top four teams in the preliminary round * a one-game final game among the top two teams from the playoff round. Eredivisie (ice Hockey)
The ''Eredivisie'' ("Premier League") was, during its existence, the only professional ice hockey league in the Netherlands and the highest level of competition organized by the Nederlandse IJshockey Bond (NIJB; English: "Dutch Ice Hockey Federation"). Formed in 1945 and playing continuously since 1964, the league mainly featured Dutch teams, although in some seasons certain Belgian teams competed. 2012–13 Eredivisie (ice Hockey) Season
The 2012–13 Eredivisie season was the 53rd season of the Eredivisie ice hockey league, and the first since the disbanding of the North Sea Cup and the reversion to the league's original name. Six Dutch teams and one Belgian team took part in the season. When the Leuven Chiefs withdrew from the North Sea Cup at the end of the 2011–2012 season, only one Belgian team, HYC Herentals, remained in the mixed Dutch/Belgian tournament. It was decided to dispense with the North Sea Cup, reinstate the Dutch Eredivisie regular season, and admit HYC Herentals to the Eredivisie. Thus in 2012–2013, Herentals was the sole Belgian team to compete for the Dutch national championship (although Herentals still competed for the Belgian Cup). 2011–12 North Sea Cup Season
The 2011–12 North Sea Cup was the second and final season of the North Sea Cup, the highest level of ice hockey in the Netherlands and Belgium, before the league reverted to its traditional name, the Eredivisie, and its traditional format. Teams Teams participating in the league changed before and during the season. Prior to the start of the season, Nijmegen Devils announced a one-year hiatus from the North Sea Cup for 2011-2012.
