Amrita Narlikar
Amrita Narlikar is the president of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) and Professor of International Relations at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg, Germany. She is also an Honorary Fellow of Darwin College (University of Cambridge), a non-resident senior fellow at the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), a Distinguished International Fellow of the Indian Association of International Studies (IAIS). She was previously Reader in International Political Economy in the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS) at the University of Cambridge, founding director of the Centre for Rising Powers, and a Fellow of Darwin College, Cambridge. She works in the fields of international negotiations, the political economy of international trade, and rising powers. The German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) is a German research institute. It analyses political, economic and social developments in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, and combines this analysis with comparative research on international relations, development and globalisation, violence and security, and political systems. The GIGA advises the Federal Foreign Office and other branches of the federal government. The institute is based in Hamburg and has an office in Berlin. An academy (Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). The name traces back to Plato's school of philosophy, founded approximately 385 BC at Akademia, a sanctuary of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, north of Athens, Greece. Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR; ''Northern German Broadcasting'') is a public broadcasting, public radio and television broadcaster, based in Hamburg. In addition to the city-state of Hamburg, NDR broadcasts for the German states of Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Schleswig-Holstein.
