Myriam Isabel Palacios Piña (18 December 1936 – 18 March 2013) was a Chilean actress and comedian who worked in theater, film, and television. Chile has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1990. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. Chile has submitted twenty-six films for Oscar consideration, with their first film being nominated for an Academy Award in 2013. Chile won its first Foreign Language Oscar in 2018, with ''A Fantastic Woman''. Submissions The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film since 1956. This is a list of submissions to the 67th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 67th Academy Awards, forty-six films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The submission deadline was set on November 1, 1994. Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Guatemala, Macedonia and Serbia submitted films to the competition for the first time. Nelson Villagra
Nelson Villagra (born 9 August 1937) is a Chilean actor, writer and director of stage and screen. He is recognised as one of the most masterful actors in Chilean cinema and is widely known in Chile for his exceptional portrayal of a mentally retarded murderer in Miguel Littín's ''El Chacal de Nahueltoro'' (1969). He also collaborated with Raúl Ruiz on '' Tres tristes tigres'' (1968), '' La colonia penal'' (1970) and '' Nadie dijo nada'' (1971). In 1973, Villagra was exiled from Chile as a result of the military coup which led to the Pinochet dictatorship.
