Ammer Valley Railway
The Ammer Valley Railway (''Ammertalbahn'') runs through the German state of Baden-Württemberg, connecting the university town of Tübingen Hauptbahnhof, Tübingen with Herrenberg station, Herrenberg in the Böblingen (district), Böblingen district. It mostly runs through the valley of the Ammer (Neckar), Ammer river. The single-track, non-electrified, non-federally-owned railway is now owned by the ''Zweckverband ÖPNV im Ammertal (ZÖA)'', with operations carried out by DB Regio AG. In addition, individual services are operated by the Hohenzollerische Landesbahn (HzL), acting as a subcontractor for DB Regio. History The Herrenberg–Pfäffingen section was opened on 12 August 1909, while the Pfäffingen–Tübingen section was delayed to 1 May 1910, partly because the construction of the Schlossberg tunnel had not been completed. The Ammergau Railway or ''Ammergaubahn'' (sometimes called the ''Ammertalbahn'' or "Ammer Valley Railway", originally the ''Lokalbahn Murnau–Oberammergau'') is a single-tracked, electrified railway line in Bavaria in southern Germany. It runs from Murnau to Oberammergau, its latter stages following the valley of the river Ammer from which it derives its name. This stub line to Oberammergau branches off at Murnau from the Munich–Garmisch-Partenkirchen main line. Operations and history This 23.671 km long route was completed on 1 May 1900 under a Bavarian concession granted on 24 January 1897 to the Lokalbahn AG (LAG). The Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS1 is the first widely used, new-generation, diesel railcar in Germany and Czech Republic for local railway services. Its most characteristic feature is the trapezium-shaped window frames. Direct traffic control (DTC) is a system for authorizing track occupancy used on some railroads instead of or in addition to signals. It is known as "direct" traffic control because the train dispatcher gives track authority directly to the train crew via radio, as opposed to through wayside personnel via telephone or telegraph, as in train orders. Tübingen Hauptbahnhof
Tübingen Hauptbahnhof is the largest station in the university town of Tübingen and the district of Tübingen, and a transport hub in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Location The station is located south of the centre of the old town on the opposite side of the Neckar. It was originally built in open fields, that are now the southern Tübingen districts of Derendingen and Südstadt.
