Ammar Ali Jan
Ammar Ali Jan ( Urdu: عمار علی جان, born December 15, 1986) is a Pakistani historian, academic and political organizer. He is founder and general secretary of Haqooq-e-Khalq Party, also a member of Progressive International. Early life and education Jan completed his education at the Salamat International Campus for Advanced Studies in 2005, received his Masters in social sciences from the University of Chicago in 2011, and got his doctorate ("A study of Communist Thought in Colonial India, 1919-1951") in history from the University of Cambridge in 2018. Career Jan has taught as assistant professor of history in University of the Punjab, Government College University and Forman Christian College, Lahore. ''The Herald'' was a monthly magazine of politics and current affairs published by the Dawn Media Group from 1970 to 2019 in Karachi, Pakistan. ''The Herald'' has been responsible for producing many large and breaking stories since it started. It was renamed from the ''Illustrated Weekly of Pakistan'' in January 1970, which was published from 1948–1969. It was Pakistan's most widely read monthly magazine, providing in-depth analyses, investigative reporting and an extensive coverage of current affairs. The magazine enjoyed a wide circulation abroad, particularly among academics and Pakistani expatriate communities in the Middle East, United Kingdom and North America. ''The Friday Times'' (TFT) is a Pakistani English-language independent newsweekly, based in Lahore, Pakistan. History and profile ''The Friday Times'' was first published in May 1989. TFT's founder-editor Najam Sethi and publisher Jugnu Mohsin, a husband-and-wife team, are recipients of international awards conferred by Amnesty International and the Committee to Protect Journalists. In 2009, Sethi also won the Golden Pen of Freedom, the annual press freedom prize of the World Association of Newspapers. According to Sethi, he first conceived of the idea for an independent Pakistani newspaper out of frustration: while briefly imprisoned in 1984 on trumped-up copyright charges, no newspapers had protested his arrest. Students Solidarity March
Students Solidarity March is a rally in support of demands of students taking place in Pakistan since 2018. First, on November 30, 2018 in ten cities of Pakistan, students rallies were held. In Islamabad, it was organised by Progressive Students Federation along with other students organizations. Second time it took place on November 29, 2019 in 53 cities of Pakistan. This march was supported by Students Action Committee which was joined by many progressive organizations. The main demands were to increase in education budget, restoration and elections of student unions and democratic rights for students. Participants also strongly condemned occupation of their hostels by paramilitary forces and poor investigation of sexual harassment cases. On 19 November 2020, a student namely adv. Arman Loni
Mohammad Ibrahim Arman Loni ( ps, محمد ابراهیم ارمان لوڼی), commonly known as Arman Loni (or Arman Luni), was a teacher of Pashto literature, poet, and one of the founding leaders of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). Arman died on 2 February 2019 after a clash with the police, which followed his participation at a protest sit-in outside Loralai Press Club. The four-day sit-in had been organized by PTM activists, including Arman and his sister Wranga Loni, to protest against the 2019 Loralai attack, in which eight policemen and a civilian had been killed by the Pakistani Taliban on 29 January 2019. His family and PTM activists said that as the police attacked him and other activists, a policeman struck Arman on the head with a gun, causing him to collapse. Ali Wazir
Muhammad Ali Wazir (Pashto/Urdu: ) is a Pakistani Pashtun politician who is the co-founder of a human rights movement, Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). He has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018. During his student life, he was active in the Pashtun Students Federation (PSF), an allied wing of the Awami National Party (ANP). Wazir's family was long active in the Pashtun nationalist movement and opposed to the Talibanization of the former tribal areas, earning them the militants' enmity. His father (Malik Mirzalam), two brothers (Farooq and Tariq), two uncles (Saadullah Jan and Feroz Khan), and three cousins (Ibrahim, Ishaq and Arif Wazir) were all murdered in targeted killings. Haqooq-e-Khalq Party
The Haqooq-e-Khalq Party (HKP; ) is a left-wing political party in Pakistan. The party seeks to unify the struggles of workers, peasants, students, women, and ethnic and religious minorities in Pakistan under the banner of a democratic and socialist political system. The Haqooq-e-Khalq Party originated as a grassroots social movement before formally establishing itself as a political party. Initially known as the Haqooq-e-Khalq Movement, it focused on advocating for the rights of marginalized communities and addressing socioeconomic inequalities in Pakistan. Taimur Rahman ( Urdu/ pnb, تیمور رحمان) is a Pakistani college professor, political activist and musician who is the Secretary-General of the Mazdoor Kisan Party (MKP), formerly Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party (CMKP). He is the lead guitarist and spokesperson for the progressive music band Laal. He has taught political science at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) since 2002. He also taught economics at the Lahore School of Economics from 1998 to 2003.
