Aminatu Abiodun
Chief Aminatu Abiodun (1924-2018) was the 13th Iyalode of Ibadan. Often described as the most powerful woman in Ibadan before her death, Abiodun was noted for her influence within the Olubadan-in-Council - the traditional government of the kingdom - and among its market women. Before assuming the role of Iyalode, she was a businesswoman. Oloye
Oba means ″ruler″ in the Yoruba and Bini languages of West Africa. Kings in Yorubaland, a region which is in the modern republics of Benin, Nigeria and Togo, make use of it as a pre-nominal honorific. Examples of Yoruba bearers include Oba Ogunwusi of Ile-Ife, Oba Aladelusi of Akure, and Oba Akiolu of Lagos. An example of a Bini bearer is Oba Ewuare II of Benin. The title is distinct from that of Oloye, which is itself used in like fashion by subordinate titleholders in the contemporary Yoruba chieftaincy system. Iyalode
The Iyalode is a high-ranking female chieftain in most of the Yoruba traditional states. The title is currently within the gift of the obas, although Njoku asserted in 2002 that the process of choosing an Iyalode in pre-colonial Nigeria was less of a choice by the monarch, and more of the accomplishment and involvement of the woman to be so honoured in economic and political matters. Laduntan Oyekanmi
Chief Theresa Laduntan Oyekanmi is the 14th Iyalode of Ibadan. She is a scion of the Ladapo family of Abebi Ibadan and the Ayeye Area's Balogun Ibikunle family. Biography Laduntan Oyekanmi was born in Ibadan, Nigeria on October 3, 1933. In the 1960s, she studied nursing in England and married Prince 'Diti Oyekanmi of the royal Matanmi Family of Osogbo, Osun State, on August 12, 1961. She worked as a nurse at the University College Hospital in Ibadan until her retirement. Prince Oyekanmi, her husband, was a commissioner in the old Western region in the 1970s and served in the cabinet of former Military Governor of Oyo State, Major General David M. Jemibewon. She became the Iyalode in July 2019, succeeding Aminat Abiodun. Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Akanji Adedibu (24 October 1927 – 11 June 2008) was an aristocratic power broker in Oyo State, Nigeria. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo described him as the "father of the PDP". Adedibu was born on October 24, 1927 at Oja-Oba, Ibadan, a member of the Olupoyi chieftaincy ruling house. Adedibu entered politics in the 1950s, when he became a member of the Ibadan People's Party, and then joined the Action Group under Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Later he was a member of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) led by Chiefs Adisa Akinloye and Richard Akinjide.
