Amigasa Jūbei
is a Japanese television ''jidaigeki'' or period drama that was broadcast from 1974 to 1975. It is based on Shōtarō Ikenami's novel by the same title. It depicts the stories of Tsukimori Jūbei and the Forty-seven rōnin. A remake was aired in 1997 on Fuji television. Plot Tsukimori Jūbei is an Onmitsu(Oniwaban). He and Masafuyu Nakane help Forty-seven rōnin′s revenge. On the other hand, Kobayashi Haihachi attempts to stop it and protect Kira Yoshinaka in various ways by Uesugi Noritsuna's(Kira Yoshinaka's son.) order. In addition, Funazu challenges Jūbei to a duel again and again, and tries to kill Jūbei persistently. Jidaigeki
is a genre of film, television, video game, and theatre in Japan. Literally meaning "period dramas", they are most often set during the Edo period of Japanese history, from 1603 to 1868. Some, however, are set much earlier—''Portrait of Hell'', for example, is set during the late Heian period—and the early Meiji era is also a popular setting. ''Jidaigeki'' show the lives of the samurai, farmers, craftsmen, and merchants of their time. Kira Yoshinaka
was a '' kōke'' (master of ceremonies). His court title was '' Kōzuke no suke (上野介)''. He is famous as the adversary of Asano Naganori in the events of the Forty-seven rōnin. Although his name (義央) has been long pronounced as "Yoshinaka" especially in dramas and novels, , written by an anonymous contemporary in 1703, recorded that his name was "Yoshihisa." Life Family and early life Born in 1641, he was the eldest son of Kira Yoshifuyu. His mother was a member of the high-ranking Sakai clan. On the death of his father in 1668, Yoshinaka became the 17th head of the household, inheriting lands evaluated at 4200 ''koku''. His wife was from the Uesugi clan, and his eldest son was adopted by Uesugi Tsunakatsu, the head of the Dewa Yonezawa ''han'', taking the name Tsunanori. Kajikawa Yoriteru
was a Japanese samurai of the Edo period, who served as a lesser official in the Tokugawa shogunate. He was also known as . Kajikawa served on guard duty in Edo Castle. Upon inheriting family headship, he became ''hatamoto'' (the direct vassal of a shōgun) and his annual stipend was 700 ''koku''. In 1701, he witnessed Asano Naganori injuring Kira Yoshinaka, and he arrested Asano. The action was evaluated and his annual salary was raised to 1200 koku. Ōishi Yoshio
was the chamberlain (karō) of the Akō Domain in Harima Province (now Hyōgo Prefecture), Japan (1679 - 1701). He is known as the leader of the Forty-seven Rōnin in their 1702 revenge vendetta and thus the hero of the ''Chūshingura''. He is often referred to by his title, . Biography He served Asano Naganori as the head chamberlain () for the Akō estate, supervising the daily running of the castle and the samurai. Due to the Tokugawa rules which required all the daimyō to spend every other year in Edo (now called Tokyo) the chamberlain was a very important man and the de facto ruler of the estate when the daimyō was away. Having attained this office at a rather young age, he is said to have had the implicit trust of his lord.
