Americans At War
''Americans at War'' is a documentary series created by the U.S. Naval Institute. Each 90-second episode features a U.S. veteran recounting a defining moment from his or her time in the armed services. As of December 2007, the Institute has produced 40 episodes. The vignettes have aired on PBS as individual segments and, on November 11, 2007, in a half-hour program containing 21 vignettes. In 2008, PBS will air three one-hour specials under the ''Americans at War'' banner. These will be ''Americans at War: Vietnam'' hosted by Joe Galloway, ''Americans at War: The Doolittle Raid'' hosted by David Hartman, and ''Americans at War: Pearl Harbor''. Interviewees * Edwin C. Documentary Film
A documentary film or documentary is a non-fictional film, motion-picture intended to "document reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education or maintaining a Recorded history, historical record". Bill Nichols (film critic), Bill Nichols has characterized the documentary in terms of "a filmmaking practice, a cinematic tradition, and mode of audience reception [that remains] a practice without clear boundaries". Early documentary films, originally called "actuality films", lasted one minute or less. Over time, documentaries have evolved to become longer in length, and to include more categories. Some examples are Educational film, educational, observational and docufiction. Documentaries are very Informational listening, informative, and are often used within schools as a resource to teach various principles. Joe Galloway
Joseph Lee Galloway (November 13, 1941August 18, 2021) was an American newspaper correspondent and columnist. David Hartman (TV Personality)
David Downs Hartman (born May 19, 1935) is an American journalist and media host who began his media career as an actor. He currently anchors and hosts documentary programs on History and PBS. Hartman is best known as the first host of ABC's ''Good Morning America'', from 1975 to 1987. As an actor, he starred in the 1970s as a young resident, Dr. Paul Hunter, on '' The Bold Ones: The New Doctors'' and as a teacher in the series '' Lucas Tanner''. He acted in the 1973 TV movie remake of ''Miracle on 34th Street''. Early life Hartman was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the son of Fannie Rodman (Downs) and Cyril Baldwin Hartman. George Juskalian
George Juskalian ( hy, Գեւորգ Ժուսգալեան; June 7, 1914 – July 4, 2010) was a decorated Colonel of the United States Army who served for over three decades and fought in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Following graduation from Boston University, Juskalian entered the army as a US Second Lieutenant, second lieutenant in June 1936. During World War II, he served with the infantry during the North African Campaign and took part in Operation Torch. At the Battle of the Kasserine Pass, he was captured by Wehrmacht, German troops and became a prisoner of war (POW) for twenty-seven months. During the Korean War he commanded an infantry battalion. He was then stationed in Tehran where he acted an advisor to the Imperial Iranian Army throughout 1957 and 1958. John Ripley (USMC)
John Walter Ripley (June 29, 1939 – October 28, 2008) was a decorated United States Marine Corps Colonel who received the Navy Cross for his actions in combat during the Vietnam War. On Easter morning 1972, Captain Ripley repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy fire over a three-hour period as he prepared to blow up an essential bridge in Dong Ha. His actions significantly hampered the North Vietnamese Army's advance into South Vietnam. The story of "Ripley at the Bridge" is legendary in the Marine Corps and is captured in a gripping diorama at the United States Naval Academy. On October 28, 2009, the first biography about Col.
