American Lyric Theater
American Lyric Theater (ALT) is an opera company based in New York City and they specialize in the development of new works. It was founded by Lawrence Edelson in 2005. Programs American Lyric Theater's Composer Librettist Development Program is the only full-time mentorship initiative for emerging operatic writers in the United States. ALT also commissions new operas with the goal of developing a new body of repertoire and attracting new audiences to opera. Commissions American Lyric Theater commissioned ''The Golden Ticket'', a new opera based on Roald Dahl's book, ''Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'', by American composer Peter Ash and British librettist Donald Sturrock. The Golden Ticket was commissioned by ALT in partnership with Felicity Dahl, and received its world premiere at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis on June 13, 2010. Opera Company
Opera is a form of theatre in which music is a fundamental component and dramatic roles are taken by singers. Such a "work" (the literal translation of the Italian word "opera") is typically a collaboration between a composer and a librettist and incorporates a number of the performing arts, such as acting, scenery, costume, and sometimes dance or ballet. Rhoda Levine
Rhoda Levine is an opera director, choreographer, and a faculty member at several schools of music. Levine was born in New York, NY. She wrote the libretto for ''Opus Number Zoo'' by Luciano Berio and has also written children's books. She is the artistic director of Play It By Ear, an improvisational opera group. Michael Korie (born April 1, 1955) is an American librettist and lyricist whose writing for musical theater and opera includes the musicals ''Grey Gardens'' and '' Far From Heaven'', and the operas ''Harvey Milk'' and ''The Grapes of Wrath''. Anthony Davis (born February 20, 1951) is an American pianist and composer. He incorporates several styles including jazz, rhythm 'n' blues, gospel, non-Western, African, European classical, Indonesian gamelan, and experimental music. He has played with several groups and is also professor of music at University of California, San Diego. Davis is perhaps best known for his operas; he has been called "the dean of African-American opera composers." Daniel Catán Porteny (April 3, 1949 – April 9, 2011) was a Mexican composer, writer and professor known particularly for his operas and his contribution of the Spanish language to the international repertory. A jay is a member of a number of species of medium-sized, usually colorful and noisy, passerine birds in the Crow family, Corvidae.
