In April 2015 the Super Legend design was further developed with the addition of a greater number of carbon fibre components, including doors, floorboards, the propeller spinner and the wingtip bows. The Piper J-3 Cub is an American light aircraft that was built between 1938 and 1947 by Piper Aircraft. Slats are aerodynamic surfaces on the leading edge of the wing of a fixed-wing aircraft which, when deployed, allow the wing to operate at a higher angle of attack. A higher coefficient of lift is produced as a result of angle of attack and speed, so by deploying slats an aircraft can fly at slower speeds, or take off and land in shorter distances. The IO-233 is a development of the Lycoming O-235, which is itself a derivative of the older Lycoming O-233 engine. Development The IO-233 was announced by the company at AirVenture on 28 July 2008 as a new engine for light sport aircraft. The engine was conceived as a lightened version of the Lycoming O-235 by company engineers who were building their own kit LSAs and found that there was no powerplant that met their requirements for power output and weight, with the ability to burn either 100LL avgas or unleaded automotive fuel. The Piper PA-11 Cub Special is a later-production variant of the J-3 Cub manufactured by Piper Aircraft. Design and development The PA-11 is a high-wing braced cabin monoplane with a tail-wheel landing gear. The enclosed cabin has two tandem seats. Early PA-11s had a Continental A65-8 engine, while the later ones had the option of a Continental C90-8.
