''American Inquisition'' is the thirteenth studio album by the band Christian Death. The album was released on Season of Mist on October 15, 2007, worldwide, and on October 23, 2007, in USA and Canada in an exclusive digipak complete with embossing and spot lacquering. The catalogue number is SOM166. It was previously thought that the next Christian Death album would be called ''Ten Excuses for Suicide'' as announced on the official site back in 2003, but this has proved not to be the case. Christian Death
Christian Death is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles County, California, in 1979 by Rozz Williams. With major line-up changes over the years, Christian Death has retained "a relentlessly confrontational stand against organized religion and conventional morality". Williams was eventually joined by guitarist Rikk Agnew of the band Adolescents, James McGearty on bass guitar and George Belanger on drums. This line-up was responsible for producing the band's best known work, their 1982 debut album ''Only Theatre of Pain'', which was highly influential in the development of the style of music known as deathrock, as well as on the American gothic scene which also produced bands such as Kommunity FK and 45 Grave. Gothic Rock
Gothic rock (also called goth rock or simply goth) is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted toward dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and the Cure. The genre itself was defined as a separate movement from post-punk. Gothic rock stood out due to its darker sound, with the use of primarily minor or bass chords, reverb, dark arrangements, or dramatic and melancholic melodies, having inspirations in gothic literature allied with themes such as sadness, nihilism, dark romanticism, tragedy, melancholy and morbidity. Valor Kand is a singer, guitarist and songwriter best known as for his involvement with Christian Death, an American deathrock/gothic rock band. Early years Kand started his music career as a drummer, but "...had to progress to other instruments as time went by just to create the sounds I wanted to hear, whether that be keyboards, or horns, or guitars, or anything I could put my hands on." Pompeii 99 In 1981, aspiring vocalist Gitane Demone placed an ad in Los Angeles newspaper ''The Recycler'', saying, "female vocalist available." The ad was answered by Kand, who had recently graduated from high school. The pair formed the band Pompeii 99. Kand was fascinated by Nostradamus and took the band's name from a prophecy. Maitri Nicolai, known under her stage name Maitri is a Dutch musician. Work Maitri is best known as the bassist, song writer, and female vocalist of the gothic rock band Christian Death. Season Of Mist
Season of Mist is an independent record label and record distributor with subsidiaries in France and the United States. The record label was founded in 1996 by Michael S. Berberian in Marseille, France. From the start releasing black metal, pagan metal, and death metal records, the label moved on to releasing albums of avant-garde metal, gothic metal and punk bands as well. The label has two offices, one in Marseille, France and one in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
