American-Eagle (ship)
''Queen of the Mississippi'', now named ''American Heritage'', is an overnight riverboat owned and operated by American Cruise Lines, currently operating on the Mississippi River. She entered service in spring 2015 and was built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland for overnight river cruising within the continental United States. The vessel accommodates 150 passengers in her 84 staterooms. The vessel is a sister ship to ''American Pride'', which originally carried the ''Queen of the Mississippi'' name from 2012 to 2015 (before it was repositioned to the Columbia & Snake Rivers). There are some differences between the riverboats, like internal arrangement and cabins on the 5th deck. However, both riverboats feature all outward-facing accomodations with private baths, and many cabins also have private furnished balconies. Chesapeake Shipbuilding is a shipbuilding company, based in Salisbury, Maryland, United States, since 1980, on the site of the former Roberts Shipyard. They are capable of constructing vessels up to 450 feet in length on the 13 acre yard. The yard includes of deepwater bulkhead along the Wicomico River. The company was contracted in 2022 to build 12 new hybrid catamaran cruise ships for United States waters. In addition to cruise ships, the company also builds tug boats. A Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI) is effectively a maritime object's international ''maritime telephone number'', a temporarily assigned UID, issued by that object's current flag state, (unlike an IMO, which is a global forever UID). An MMSI comprises a series of nine digits, consisting Maritime Identification Digits(country-codes), concatenated with a specific identifier. Z-drive
A Z-drive is a type of marine propulsion unit. Specifically, it is an azimuth thruster. The pod can rotate 360 degrees allowing for rapid changes in thrust direction and thus vessel direction. This eliminates the need for a conventional rudder. The Z-drive is so named because of the appearance (in cross section) of the mechanical driveshaft or transmission configuration used to connect the mechanically supplied driving energy to the ''Z-Drive'' azimuth thruster device. This form of power transmission is called a Z-drive because the rotary motion has to make two right angle turns, thus resembling the letter "Z".
