America Goes Bananaz
''America Goes Bananaz'' is a teenager-oriented variety show presented by Michael Young and Randy Hamilton. It premiered locally on QUBE's C-1 channel in 1977, with the title ''Columbus Goes Bananaz''. The series was renamed ''America Goes Bananaz'' in preparation for a move to then-upcoming youth-oriented national network Nickelodeon; all episodes aired from January 19, 1979, onward used this title. Early episodes of the show were broadcast live from the Westland Mall in Columbus, Ohio. Some episodes incorporated the QUBE system's interactivity, having viewers decide which events they would like to see. The series' interactive element was discontinued as the show went national, and episodes were taped in advance from 1979 until the show ended. Michael Young (actor)
Michael Meredith Young (born March 8, 1952) is an American actor and television host. An Emmy Award winner (recognized for ABC's ''Kids Are People Too!'', ESPN, ''Young Talent Time'' and CBS' Miss Teen USA) he was also part of the launch teams at CNBC, and The Disney Channel. Young began his career at QUBE, the world's first interactive TV network, created by Warner Communications, where his show won cable TV's first ACE award for entertainment series. ''The Mike Douglas Show'' was an American daytime television talk show that was hosted by Mike Douglas. It began as a local program in Cleveland before being carried on other stations owned by Westinghouse Broadcasting. The show went into national syndication and was moved to Philadelphia in 1965. Bob Zmuda (born December 12, 1949) is an American writer, comedian, producer, and director best known for his friendship with comedian Andy Kaufman. Biography Bob Zmuda occasionally portrayed Kaufman's Tony Clifton character on stage and for television appearances. In a 2006 interview, Zmuda told the ''Opie and Anthony Show'' that he was masquerading as Tony Clifton with David Letterman, and that Letterman did not find out until years later. In 1986, Zmuda founded the American version of ''Comic Relief'', an annual event that raises money to help the homeless in the United States. The Sanford-Townsend Band was a rock and roll band that scored a hit single in 1977 with "Smoke from a Distant Fire". History The Sanford-Townsend Band featured keyboardists Ed Sanford (from Montgomery, Alabama) and Johnny Townsend (from Tuscaloosa, Alabama), who previously worked together in a Tuscaloosa-based band called Heart (not to be confused with the band of the same name fronted by Ann and Nancy Wilson from Seattle/Vancouver).
