"America" is Killing Joke's first single from their seventh studio album, '' Outside the Gate''. It was released by E.G. Records on 18 April 1988. It was the first official single by Killing Joke to be self-produced, after the departure of producer Chris Kimsey. The single was accompanied by a satirical music video depicting Jaz Coleman as a presidential candidate and dressed as Uncle Sam, in a dystopian scene of the United States. Killing Joke are an English rock music, rock band from Notting Hill, London, England, formed in 1979 by Jaz Coleman (vocals, keyboards), Paul Ferguson (drums), Geordie Walker (guitar) and Youth (musician), Youth (bass). Their first album, ''Killing Joke (1980 album), Killing Joke'', was released in 1980. After the release of ''Revelations (Killing Joke), Revelations'' in 1982, bassist Youth was replaced by Paul Raven (musician), Paul Raven. The band achieved mainstream success in 1985 with both the album ''Night Time (album), Night Time'' and the single "Love Like Blood (song), Love Like Blood". Change (Killing Joke Song)
"Change" is a song by English post-punk band Killing Joke that appeared on the US release of Killing Joke (1980 album), their 1980 self-titled debut album. The song bears a resemblance to the War (American band), War song "Me and Baby Brother", which Killing Joke have acknowledged. Release A version of the song recorded at a Peel session, John Peel session on 5 March 1980 was issued that month as a limited-edition promotional single, available at gigs and without advertisement from the band's Malicious Damage label. The B-side was a version of "Tomorrow's World" (originally on Killing Joke's debut album) recorded at the same Peel session. These two versions later appeared on the 2008 compilation ''The Peel Sessions 1979–1981''. The song then appeared on the US release of the band's October 1980 debut album. Uncle Sam (which has the same initials as ''United States'') is a common national personification of the federal government of the United States or the country in general. Since the early 19th century, Uncle Sam has been a popular symbol of the U.S. government in American culture and a manifestation of patriotic emotion. Uncle Sam has also developed notoriety for his appearance in military propaganda, popularized by a famous 1917 World War I recruiting poster by J.M. Flagg. ''Outside the Gate'' is the seventh studio album by English post-punk band Killing Joke, released in June 1988 by E.G. via Virgin Records worldwide. It was a significant stylistic departure for the band, with complex synthesised (orchestra influenced) arrangements and less prominent guitar. Tensions within the band surfaced during pre-production. Drummer Paul Ferguson was dismissed at the beginning of the sessions and replaced by a studio musician while bassist Paul Raven took part to the recording but ultimately asked his name to be withdrawn from the credits for major disagreement over artistic content. Christopher Kenneth Kimsey (born 3 December 1951 in Battersea, London, England) is an English record producer, mixer and musician most famous for having co-produced The Rolling Stones' ''Undercover'' and '' Steel Wheels'' albums. He was also an engineer on their 1971 album ''Sticky Fingers'' as well as 1978's ''Some Girls'' and 1980's ''Emotional Rescue'' and assisted Mick Jagger and Keith Richards closely in preparing 1981's ''Tattoo You''.
