''America, I Hear You Singing'' is an album recorded and released in 1964 by American singers Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby, backed by Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians. The album is a collection of patriotic songs, recorded as a tribute to the assassinated president John F. Kennedy. The artists would collaborate again for the album '' 12 Songs of Christmas'', released later the same year. An abridged version of the album was reissued as ''This Land Is Your Land'' (H 30931) on Columbia's budget label Harmony in 1971. The album received its first release on CD in 2010. The tracks featuring Frank Sinatra were included on the 1995 box set '' The Complete Reprise Studio Recordings''. Francis Albert Sinatra (; December 12, 1915 – May 14, 1998) was an American singer and actor. The Complete Reprise Studio Recordings
''The Complete Reprise Studio Recordings'' is a 1995 box set album by the American singer Frank Sinatra. The release coincided with Sinatra's 80th birthday celebration. The original 1995 packaging had the 20 discs encased in a small, leather-bound trunk. When it was re-released in 1998, it was repackaged in a more-standard (and cheaper) cardboard format. Features As the title implies, the set claims to contain every song ever recorded in the studio during Sinatra's career with Reprise Records, but misses the 49-second "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You (Reprise)" included as the closing track from the 1961 album ''I Remember Tommy'' and also leaves off a remake of " Body and Soul" and "Leave It All To Me" (a song written by Paul Anka), in addition to several alternate versions of songs included in the set. "This Land Is Your Land" is one of the United States' most famous folk songs. Its lyrics were written by American folk singer Woody Guthrie in 1940 in critical response to Irving Berlin's "God Bless America", with melody based on a Carter Family tune called "When the World's on Fire". When Guthrie was tired of hearing Kate Smith sing "God Bless America" on the radio in the late 1930s, he sarcastically called his song "God Blessed America for Me" before renaming it "This Land Is Your Land". In 2002, "This Land Is Your Land" was one of 50 recordings chosen that year by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. In 2021, it was listed at No. 229 on Rolling Stone's "Top 500 Best Songs of All Time". Earl Robinson
Earl Hawley Robinson (July 2, 1910 – July 20, 1991) was a composer, arranger and folk music singer-songwriter from Seattle, Washington. Robinson is remembered for his music, including the cantata "Ballad for Americans" and songs such as " Joe Hill" and "Black and White", which expressed his left-leaning political views. He wrote many popular songs and music for Hollywood films, including his collaboration with Lewis Allan on the 1940s hit "The House I Live In" from the Academy Award winning film of the same name. ''The House I Live In'' is a ten-minute short film written by Albert Maltz, produced by Frank Ross and Mervyn LeRoy, and starring Frank Sinatra. Made to oppose anti-Semitism at the end of World War II, it received an Honorary Academy Award and a special Golden Globe Award in 1946. In 2007, this film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Plot Sinatra, apparently playing himself, takes a break from a recording session and steps outside to smoke a cigarette. Irving Berlin (born Israel Beilin; yi, ישראל ביילין; May 11, 1888 – September 22, 1989) was a Russian-American composer, songwriter and lyricist. John T. Halloran (January 10, 1916January 24, 1997) was an American composer and choral director. He died at 81 of a stroke. Richard Eastis Reynolds was an American musician, songwriter, and trombonist who was an arranger for the Four Freshmen. Tom Scott (composer)
Thomas Jefferson Scott (May 28, 1912, Campbelltown, Kentucky – August 12, 1961, New York City) was an American composer and singer. Biography Scott studied music at the University of Kentucky, after which he moved to New York City when he joined Fred Waring's glee club. He was soon employed by the group as an arranger. In 1942, he began a successful career as a folk singer. He accompanied himself on the guitar and billed himself as "The American Troubadour". He appeared at the Rainbow Room and the Cotillion Room of the Pierre Hotel, among other venues. Garnering praise, Scott landed his own radio show, which ran for several years. Although Scott did write some of his own folk songs, he is mostly remembered now for his classical works, and in particular his symphonic pieces, which for the most part are rooted in American folk music. Waring's Pennsylvanians was a dance band that was founded at Penn State University by Fred Waring. First named the Collegians, the group was formed in 1918 at Penn State by the brothers Fred and Tom Waring and their friends Freddy Buck and Poley McClintock.
