The Americas Rugby League Championship is an international rugby league football tournament contested by originally contested by North America national rugby league teams. Colonial Cup (rugby League)
The Colonial Cup is an international rugby league football challenge match played between the United States Tomahawks and the Canada Wolverines. The inaugural match was played in September, 2010 at the Richardson Memorial Stadium at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. The match was won by the USA Tomahawks 22-16. In 2011, the Colonial Cup was expanded to a 'home and away' series. Each team won their home fixture; the USA won the first of the two games 18-2 with Canada securing their first win in the second match with an 18-16 win. USA won the series with an overall aggregate score of 34-20. In 2012, the Cup was again contested over 2 games, with the USA Tomahawks winning both games. In 2013, the series has been expanded to a best 2 of 3 series. In 2014, Canada won their first ever Colonial Cup trophy. The 2017 Rugby League World Cup qualifying process began on 9 May 2015 with the 2015 European Championship C. In August 2014, it was announced that seven of the eight quarter-finalists at the 2013 tournament would receive automatic qualification. Fourteen teams took part in the qualifying process to fill the remaining seven spots. Background Eight teams automatically qualified for the World Cup. Seven of the teams which reached the quarter-finals of the 2013 World Cup were granted automatic qualification, along with co-hosts Papua New Guinea. The South American Rugby League Championship is a rugby league football tournament for South American national teams that was first held in 2018. History The inaugural South American Rugby League Championship was held in 2018 which was both hosted and won by Brazil in both the men's and women's tournament. However it wasn't until the second edition in 2022 that the tournament was played under International Rugby League specifications. The tournament acts as South American World Cup qualification tournament with the winners gaining the right to play in the Americas Rugby League Championship, the winner of that tournament qualifies for the World Cup. The 2021 Rugby League World Cup (RLWC2021) was a collection of world cups in the sport of rugby league, held in England from 15 October to 19 November 2022.
