Princess Amelia of Nassau-Weilburg (''Amelia Charlotte Wilhelmina Louise''; 7 August 1776 in Kirchheimbolanden – 19 February 1841 at Schaumburg Castle, near Limburg an der Lahn) was a Princess of Nassau by birth and by marriage Duchess of Anhalt-Bernburg. Background Amelia was the daughter of Charles Christian, Prince of Nassau-Weilburg and his wife the Dutch princess Princess Carolina of Orange-Nassau. Amelia was the 10th of 15 children born to the Prince and Princess of Nassau-Weilburg, as her mother was born a daughter of William IV, Prince of Orange and the English princess Anne, Princess Royal and Princess of Orange a prestigious marriage for Amelia was to be expected. Henriëtte Amalia Maria von Anhalt-Dessau (Kleve, 16 August 1666 – Dietz an der Lahn, 18 April 1726) was a Princess consort of Nassau-Dietz. She was the daughter of John George II, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau, and Henriëtte Catharina of Nassau and the granddaughter of Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange. Marriage and issue She married her cousin Henry Casimir II, Prince of Nassau-Dietz, in 1683, at the age of 17. When Henry Casimir died in 1696, she became regent for their son, John William Friso, who succeeded to his father's titles. Henriëtte Amalia von Anhalt-Dessau died in 1726, at the age of 59 and was buried in Dietz. Henry Casimir II of Nassau-Dietz (18 January 1657 – 25 March 1696) was Stadtholder of Friesland and Groningen from 1664 till 1696. Life Henry Casimir II of Nassau-Dietz was born in The Hague, the eldest son of Willem Frederik of Nassau-Dietz and Countess Albertine Agnes of Nassau, daughter of Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange, stadtholder of Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht, Guelders, and Overijssel. When his father, a member of the branch of Nassau-Dietz, died in 1664, he was made stadtholder of Friesland and Groningen (under guardianship of his mother as he was then seven years old). In 1675, Friesland voted to make its stadtholdership hereditary in the house of Nassau-Dietz. Hendrik Casimir II was therefore the first Friesian stadtholder. Count John of Nassau-Idstein (born 24 November 1603 in Saarbrücken; died: 23 May 1677 in Idstein) was Count of Nassau and Protestant Regent of Idstein. Life His parents were Louis II, Count of Nassau-Weilburg (1565–1627) and his wife, Landgräfin Anna Maria of Hesse-Kassel (1567–1626). Frederick of Nassau-Weilburg (born 26 April 1640 in Metz; died: 8 September 1675) was the ruling Count of Nassau-Weilburg from 1655 to 1675. He was the son of Ernest Casimir (1607–1655) and his wife Anna Maria of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hachenburg (1610–1656). His parents fled to Metz during the Thirty Years' War. Frederick was born in Metz and spent his early years there. After the end of the war, the family returned to a devastated country. Frederick inherited Nassau-Weilburg in 1655. As he was still a minor at the time, his uncle John acted as regent. When he married in 1663, he was declared an adult and took up government himself. In 1672, the Franco-Dutch war broke out.
