Attila Ambrus
Attila Ambrus (born October 6, 1967), alias The Whiskey Robber, is a Hungarian bank robber and professional ice hockey player. He became notorious during the 1990s for committing a string of undercover "gentleman robberies" in and around Budapest, Hungary, while working a day job as a goaltender. He became infamous in Hungary as a folk hero symbolic of the times in the decade after the introduction of capitalism to the former Communist state. Ambrus was eventually caught and imprisoned for about 12 years, released in 2012. His story was told in the 2004 book ''Ballad of the Whiskey Robber'' by author Julian Rubinstein and the 2017 film '' A Viszkis'' directed by Nimród Antal. Edita Ambrušová
Edita Ambrušová (née Kolečányiová; 30 October 1920 – 9 March 2015) was a Slovak painter and illustrator. Ambušová was born on 30 October 1920 in Ružomberok. She studied painting at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava under the supervision of Martin Benka. In 1943 she moved to Vienna where her husband the art historian Jozef Ambruš managed to find a job. In Vienna, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. When the fighting got closer to Vienna, the family was evacuated to Windischgarsten and eventually returned to Bratislava. Back home Ambušová picked up book illustrations to support her family. The most well-known are her illustrations produced for the Slovak translation of '' Of Mice and Men'' by John Steinbeck. In her painting, Ambušová focused on monumental religious motives as well as intimate perceptions of her surroundings. Jan Ambrus
Ján Ambruš, OBE (19 May 1899 – 2 January 1994) was a Slovak aerobatics and fighter pilot. He flew with the French Air Force in the Battle of France and the Royal Air Force in the Battle of Britain. After the Communist takeover of Czechoslovakia he escaped and settled in the US, where he worked as a design engineer. Early life Ambruš was born on 9 May 1899 in Gorna Mitropolia (Горна Митрополия) in the Plevenska Oblast of northern Bulgaria. His parents belonged to a Slovak community that was invited to settle in Bulgaria after its liberation from the Ottoman Empire in 1878. In the First World War Ambruš studied at the Hungarian Ludovica Military Academy in Budapest. Victor Ambrus (born László Győző Ambrus, 19 August 1935 – 10 February 2021) was a Hungarian-born British illustrator of history, folk tales, and animal story books. He also became known from his appearances on the Channel 4 television archaeology series ''Time Team'', on which he visualised how sites under excavation may have once looked. Ambrus was an Associate of the Royal College of Art and a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Arts and the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers. He was also a patron of the Association of Archaeological Illustrators and Surveyors up until its merger with the Institute for Archaeologists in 2011.
