Jerome Anthony Ambro, Jr. (June 27, 1928 – March 4, 1993) was an American politician and a member of the United States House of Representatives for New York from 1975 to 1981. Biography Ambro's father was New York assemblyman Jerome G. Ambro. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he attended Brooklyn public elementary schools and graduated from Grover Cleveland High School, Queens, New York, in 1946. Ambro earned a B.A. from New York University in 1955. He was married on June 11, 1955, to Helen McCooey, with whom he had three children, Cathleen Ambro DeRolf, David Ambro and Richard Ambro. His second wife was Antoinette Salatto. Career Ambro served in the United States Army as a member of the Military Police from 1951 to 1953 where he attained the rank of sergeant. Ambro served the town of Huntington as a budget office and purchasing and personnel director from 1960 to 1967. Jerome (; la, Eusebius Sophronius Hieronymus; grc-gre, Εὐσέβιος Σωφρόνιος Ἱερώνυμος; – 30 September 420), also known as Jerome of Stridon, was a Christian priest, confessor, theologian, and historian; he is commonly known as Saint Jerome. Jerome was born at Stridon, a village near Emona on the border of Dalmatia and Pannonia. He is best known for his translation of the Bible into Latin (the translation that became known as the Vulgate) and his commentaries on the whole Bible. Jerome attempted to create a translation of the Old Testament based on a Hebrew version, rather than the Septuagint, as Latin Bible translations used to be performed before him. His list of writings is extensive, and beside his biblical works, he wrote polemical and historical essays, always from a theologian's perspective.
