Amatitlania Nanolutea
''Amatitlania'' is a genus of cichlid fishes native to freshwater habitats in Central America from El Salvador and Guatemala to Panama. They are fairly small cichlids, typically reaching up to in standard length depending on exact species, although captives may grow larger. Several ''Amatitlania'' species are regularly kept in aquariums, especially the convict cichlids, which are aggressively territorial, but some others in the genus are less pugnacious. Some ''Amatitlania'' species have small ranges and are considered threatened, primarily due to habitat loss and pollution. Four are regarded as priority species in the CARES program, which aims to ensure their survival through captive breeding. Taxonomy and species ''Amatitlania'' is closely related to ''Archocentrus'' and ''Cryptoheros'', and among others contains the convict cichlids that were previously placed in those genera. The genus was erected by Juan Schmitter-Soto in 2007 based on a study of the ''Archocentrus'' com ...

Amatitlania Siquia
''Amatitlania siquia'', the Honduran red point cichlid, is a species of cichlid native to Central America. These cichlid can be identified by black melanin-based stripes in males and an additional bright orange spot on the abdomen for females. The size and pigmentation of the spots and stripes respectively correlate to proactivity within this cichlid. Darker stripes in males and smaller spots in females are characteristic of more proactive ''Amatitlania siquia''''.'' In 2019, scientists have shown that members of this monogamous species of fish develop a pessimist attitude when their partner is absent. Amatitlania Sajica
''Amatitlania sajica'', the T-bar cichlid or Sajica cichlid, is a Central American species of cichlid found in freshwater streams and lakes on the Pacific slope of Costa Rica. The fish is tan colored with seven indistinct bars on the body. The third bar is usually prominent and coupled with a dark lateral stripe running from the gill cover results in a horizontal T-shaped mark, hence the common name of T-bar cichlid. Environment The T-bar cichlid inhabits rivers which have moderate to strong currents in Costa Rica at up to 2000 feet of elevation, but they are not found in the rapids. They prefer smaller rocks and gravel. They are omnivorous, feeding on algal filaments, aquatic insects, seeds and bottom detritus. Breeding Male ''A. sajica'' reach to 12 cm. Mature females that are ready to spawn have a beautiful golden yellow color on their dorsal and anal fins. These fish exhibits a number of different cichlid spawning behaviors including cave spawning (most common) ...

Charles Tate Regan
Charles Tate Regan FRS (1 February 1878 – 12 January 1943) was a British ichthyologist, working mainly around the beginning of the 20th century. He did extensive work on fish classification schemes. Born in Sherborne, Dorset, he was educated at Derby School and Queens' College, Cambridge and in 1901 joined the staff of the Natural History Museum, where he became Keeper of Zoology, and later director of the entire museum, in which role he served from 1927 to 1938. Regan was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1917. Regan mentored a number of scientists, among them Ethelwynn Trewavas, who continued his work at the British Natural History Museum. Species Among the species he described is the Siamese fighting fish (''Betta splendens''). In turn, a number of fish species have been named ''regani'' in his honour: *A Thorny Catfish '' Anadoras regani'' (Steindachner, 1908) *The Dwarf Cichlid '' Apistogramma regani'' *'' Apogon regani'' *A Catfish '' Astroblepus regani'' * ...

Amatitlania Septemfasciata
''Amatitlania septemfasciata'' (sometimes called the Seven-stripe Cichlid or Cutter's Cichlid) is a fish species in the cichlid family. It is found on the Atlantic slope of Costa Rica, between the San Juan River drainage and the Banano River. Several currently recognized cichlid species within the genus ''Amatitlania'' were formerly considered varieties of ''Amatitlania septumfasciata'', including '' Amatitlania myrnae'', the Topaz Cichlid, and '' Amatitlania cutteri'' (which also sometimes uses the common name "Cutter's Cichlid"). Prior to being placed in the genus ''Amatitlania'', it had been considered a member of the genus ''Archocentrus''. Within ''Amatitlania,'' ''Amatitlania septemfasciata'' is placed in the subgenus '' Bussingius'', along with the T-bar Cichlid and several other species. However, a 2008 study led by Oldřich Říčan has suggested that all the related species ''A. septemfasciatus'', should be moved into the genus ''Hypsophrys''. Natural history ' ...

Albert Günther
Albert Karl Ludwig Gotthilf Günther FRS, also Albert Charles Lewis Gotthilf Günther (3 October 1830 – 1 February 1914), was a German-born British zoologist, ichthyologist, and herpetologist. Günther is ranked the second-most productive reptile taxonomist (after George Albert Boulenger) with more than 340 reptile species described. Early life and career Günther was born in Esslingen in Swabia (Württemberg). His father was a ''Stiftungs-Commissar'' in Esslingen and his mother was Eleonora Nagel. He initially schooled at the Stuttgart Gymnasium. His family wished him to train for the ministry of the Lutheran Church for which he moved to the University of Tübingen. A brother shifted from theology to medicine, and he, too, turned to science and medicine at Tübingen in 1852. His first work was "''Ueber den Puppenzustand eines Distoma''". He graduated in medicine with an M.D. from Tübingen in 1858, the same year in which he published a handbook of zoology for students of ...

Amatitlania Nigrofasciata
The convict cichlid (''Amatitlania nigrofasciata'') is a fish species from the family Cichlidae, native to Central America, also known as the zebra cichlid. Convict cichlids are popular aquarium fish and have also been the subject of numerous studies on fish behaviour. Taxonomy Albert Günther originally described the species in 1867 after Frederick DuCane Godman and Osbert Salvin collected specimens in Central America. In 2007, the species was moved from the genus ''Archocentrus'' to a new genus, ''Amatitlania'', based on Juan Schmitter-Soto's study of ''Archocentus'' species. However, a 2008 study led by Oldřich Říčan proposed moving the species in ''Cryptoheros'' and ''Amatitlania'', including ''Amatitlania nigrofasciata'' into the genus ''Hypsophrys''. The convict cichlid, as traditionally defined, displays significant color variations across its range. Some of these regional variants are now considered different species. One of these is ''A. siquia'', the Honduran red ...

Paul V
Pope Paul V ( la, Paulus V; it, Paolo V) (17 September 1550 – 28 January 1621), born Camillo Borghese, was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 16 May 1605 to his death in January 1621. In 1611, he honored Galileo Galilei as a member of the Papal Accademia dei Lincei and supported his discoveries. In 1616, Pope Paul V instructed Cardinal Bellarmine to inform Galileo that the Copernican theory could not be taught as fact, but Bellarmine's certificate allowed Galileo to continue his studies in search for evidence and use the geocentric model as a theoretical device. That same year Paul V assured Galileo that he was safe from persecution so long as he, the Pope, should live. Bellarmine's certificate was used by Galileo for his defense at the trial of 1633. Early life Camillo Borghese was born in Rome on 17 September 1550 into the Borghese family of Siena which had recently established itself in Rome. He was the eldest son of seven sons of th ...
