As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 8,728, up from 6,559 as of 2005. As of 2010, the town of Amatenango del Valle had a population of 4,661, up from 3,351 as of 2005. Other than the town of Amatenango del Valle, the municipality had 60 localities, none of which had a population over 1,000. Amatenango de la Frontera is a town and municipality in the Mexican state of Chiapas, in southern Mexico. It covers an area of 171.4 km² and is a part of Mexico's border with Guatemala.
