Amaranath Jayathilake
Amaranath Jayathilake ( si, අමරනාත් ජයතිලක; 20 May 1937 – 25 September 2013), was a journalist, writer and filmmaker in Sri Lankan cinema. Personal life Jayathilake was born on 20 May 1937 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. On 4 September 2013, he was hospitalized following an accident and treated at Ward 74 of the Colombo National Hospital. He died on 25 September 2013 at the age of 77. His body was buried next day at 10.00 am in Kanatte Cemetery, following his last request that his body should be buried without any decorations or ceremony. Career Jayathilake started his film writing career with the Lankadeepa newspaper in 1961. In November of the same year, he went to Calcutta, India, to study film production. During his time in India, he studied cinema with the Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray, who was also a pioneer in introducing cinema to Sri Lanka. Kanatte Cemetery
Kanatte Cemetery, also known locally as Borella Cemetery, is Colombo's main burial ground and crematorium. It is located at the intersection of Elvitigala Mawatha (Narahenpita Road), Bauddhaloka Mawatha (Bullers Road) and D. S. Senanayake Mawatha (Baseline Road). The cemetery is owned and operated by the Colombo Municipal Council and contains a Commonwealth War Graves Plot with a number of additional war graves dispersed around the site. The war graves include those of a German soldier, a German merchant seaman, a German interned civilian and an Austrian nursing sister. There are over 60 World War I Commonwealth servicemen and nearly 300 World War II Commonwealth servicemen buried here. Sri Lankan cinema encompasses the Sri Lankan film industry. It is a fledgling industry that has struggled to find a footing since its inauguration in 1947 with '' Kadawunu Poronduwa'' produced by S. M. Nayagam of Chitra Kala Movietone. Sri Lankan films are usually made in Sinhala and Tamil languages, the dominant languages of the country. Cinema of Sri Lanka is also referred to as Follywood as many famous Sri Lankan actors had surnames starting with an "F." In the first nine years, most films were made in neighboring Southern India and closely followed the conventions of Indian cinema. Lankadeepa ( si, ලංකාදීප) is a daily Sri Lankan Sinhala language newspaper which is owned by Wijeya Newspapers. They were established in 1991. The Chairman of the organisation is Ranjith Wijewardene, the son of D. R. Wijewardena. The newspaper's coverage includes politics, sports, entertainment and military. The weekend newspaper, named ''Irida Lankadeepa'', is published on Sundays. Irida Lankadeepa won the SLIM-Nielsen People's Awards in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010 as Sri Lanka's most popular weekend newspaper. Satyajit Ray (; 2 May 1921 – 23 April 1992) was an Indian director, screenwriter, documentary filmmaker, author, essayist, lyricist, magazine editor, illustrator, calligrapher, and music composer. One of the greatest auteurs of film-making, Ray is celebrated for works including ''The Apu Trilogy'' (1955–1959), ''The Music Room'' (1958), ''The Big City'' (1963) and ''Charulata'' (1964). Rathnayake Arachchilage Victor ( Sinhala: වික්ටර් රත්නායක; born 18 February 1942), popularly known as Victor Rathnayake, is a Sri Lankan singer, composer, lyricist and a renowned musician.
