Amanda O'Regan
Amanda O'Regan (born 1982 in Douglas) is a camogie player and secondary school teacher based in Kanturk, winner of All Ireland medals in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009. She scored a crucial goal in the 2005 final when her speculative 45 found its way into the Tipperary goal. She was a nominee for All Star awards in 2006 and 2007. Amanda won three Ashbourne Cup medals with University of Limerick. She is the holder of All-Ireland Minor, Junior and Senior honours and is also an accomplished basketball player. Her father, Michael, won an All-Ireland Minor football medal and is a selector today, while mother, Christine, captured a Junior All-Ireland medal in 1980. Amanda captained her club, Douglas, to their first Senior county championship title in 2008 and captained Cork to the 2009 All Ireland championship. Douglas, County Cork
Douglas () is a suburb, with a village core, in Cork city, Ireland. Douglas is also the name of the townland, Roman Catholic parish, Church of Ireland parish and civil parish in which it is contained. Originally a separate village, the growth of both the village and the city has meant Douglas has become incorporated into the city over time. Douglas GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Douglas, County Cork, Ireland. The club participates at different levels in hurling, Gaelic football, camogie and ladies football. The club is part of the Seandún division of Cork GAA. History A hurling team representing Douglas participated in the first Cork Senior Hurling Championship in 1887. Kanturk () is a town in the north west of County Cork, Ireland. It is situated at the confluence of the Allua (Allow) and Dallow (Dalua) rivers, which stream further on as tributaries to the River Blackwater. All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship is a competition for inter-county teams in the women's field sport of game of camogie played in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Camogie Association and are played during the summer months with the All-Ireland Camogie Final being played on the second Sunday in September in Croke Park, Dublin. The prize for the winning team is the O'Duffy Cup. The men's equivalent tournament is the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. The 2009 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship—known as the Gala All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship for sponsorship reasons— is the high point of the 2009 season in the sport of camogie. It commenced on 20 June 2009 and ended with the final on 13 September 2009. Eight teams competed in the Senior Championship out of twenty-seven who competed overall in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Championships. Camogie All Stars
The Camogie All Star Awards are awarded each November to 15 players who have made outstanding contributions to the Irish stick and ball team sport of camogie in the 15 traditional positions on the field: goalkeeper, three full backs, three half-backs, two midfields, three half-forwards and three full-forwards. They were awarded for the first time in 2003 as an independent initiative sponsored by a hotel group and accorded official status by the Camogie Association in 2004. In 2004 a team of the century was also chosen to commemorate the centenary of the sport. O'Neill's are the present title sponsors of the awards. The Ashbourne Cup is the highest division in inter-collegiate camogie.
