Amalgamated Bank () is an American financial institution. It is the largest union-owned bank and one of the only unionized banks in the United States. Amalgamated Bank is currently majority-owned by Workers United, an SEIU Affiliate. Founded on April 14, 1923, by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, Amalgamated Bank had nearly $4 billion in assets. Through its Institutional Asset Management and Custody Division, Amalgamated Bank is one of the leading providers of investment and trust services to Taft–Hartley plans in the United States. The bank oversees over $45 billion in investment advisory and custodial services. Union Square is a historic intersection and surrounding neighborhood in Manhattan, New York City, located where Broadway and the former Bowery Road – now Fourth Avenue – came together in the early 19th century. Its name denotes that "here was the union of the two principal thoroughfares of the island". Amalgamated Housing Cooperative
Amalgamated Housing Cooperative, originally the Amalgamated Cooperative Apartment House, is a pioneering American limited-equity cooperative apartment complex organized under the provisions of the ''Private Housing Finance'' (PVH) law, article IV (unlike the Mitchell-Lama housing under PVH, art. II) and originally built from 1927 to 1930 in The Bronx, New York City, New York. The Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, headed by Sidney Hillman and prodded by Cooperative housing founder Abraham E. Kazan, funded and organized the construction of a community of affordable housing for the working class. Max Zaritsky (1885–1959) was an American union leader of the United Hatters, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union (UHCMW) as well as co-founder of both the American Labor Party and Liberal Party of New York State. Joseph Schlossberg
Joseph Schlossberg (May 1, 1875 – January 15, 1971) was a Belorussian-born Jewish-American labor activist. Life Schlossberg was born on May 1, 1875 in Koidanovo, Minsk Governorate, Russia, the son of Max Schlossberg and Bessie Feldman. He immigrated to America and settled in New York City in 1888. Schlossberg attended public school in New York City for a year. He went to the Columbia University School for Political Science from 1905 to 1907. The son of a tailor, he initially worked as a cloakmaker. He was editor of ''Dos Abend Blatt,'' a Yiddish daily, from 1900 to 1902. He edited ''Der Arbeiter'', a Yiddish weekly from 1904 to 1911. In 1912, he edited the ''Yiddishe Wochenschrift'' with David Pinski. Abraham Hugo Miller (March 13, 1851July 8, 1913) was a businessman, pastor and state legislator in Arkansas. He served in the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1874 and 1875. At the peak of his business operations, he was considered the wealthiest man in Arkansas. He was a pastor at Centennial Baptist Church in Helena, Arkansas. August Bellanca (1880–1969) was an American labor activist who was a founder and three-time vice president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America (ACWA). The ACWA was formed as an offshoot of United Garment Workers and was the result of tensions between the national union and urban locals. He was the head of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America and was a key figure in the founding of the Congress of Industrial Organizations and in marshaling labor's support for President Franklin D.
