Always Stay Sweet
''Always Stay Sweet'' is a compilation album by His Name Is Alive, released by 4AD on February 23, 1999. History ''Always Stay Sweet'' is one of the rare 4AD albums that was released in the USA only, and not the label's native UK. It is a compilation of tracks from His Name Is Alive's first five records for the label, all of which—except for ''Stars on ESP''—were out of print in America at the time. This is presumably part of the reason why 4AD chose the album for American release only—it was a way for American audiences to acquire some of the band's early work in lieu of re-issuing the entire back catalog. The album relies heavily on the early albums when HNIA were often described as a gothic folk band inspired by 4AD supergroup This Mortal Coil. Nearly all of the songs are from 1990's '' Livonia'', 1991's ''Home Is in Your Head'', and 1993's '' Mouth by Mouth''. Only two songs from ''Stars on ESP'' are included, and nearly all of the songs from '' The Dirt Eaters EP'' ar ...

The Dirt Eaters EP
''The Dirt Eaters'' in an EP by His Name Is Alive, originally released by 4AD in early 1992. It has never been released on its own in the United States, as it was included on the 4AD/Rykodisc US reissue of ''Home Is in Your Head'' in 1992. History ''The Dirt Eaters'' represented a step forward in the evolution of His Name Is Alive. While still recorded at HNIA leader Warren Defever's home, the small success of his first two LPs for 4AD had allowed him to considerably improve his home recording studio. Much more so than the previous releases, ''The Dirt Eaters'' is a song-oriented effort, with mostly ethereal folk songs replacing the sound collages and avant-pop of '' Livonia'' and ''Home Is in Your Head''. Four songs were recorded for the EP in late 1991, and a remix of "Are We Still Married?" was also included. Released early in 1992, the EP was somewhat meant to promote this remix, for which a video by the Brothers Quay had been made. Therefore, the front cover says "Are We S ...

Alex Chilton
William Alexander Chilton (December 28, 1950 – March 17, 2010) was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer best known as the lead singer of the Box Tops and Big Star. Chilton's early commercial success in the 1960s as a teen vocalist for the Box Tops was never repeated in later years with Big Star and in his subsequent indie music solo career on small labels, but he drew an intense following among indie and alternative rock musicians. He is frequently cited as a seminal influence by influential rock artists and bands, some of whose testimonials appeared in the 2012 documentary '' Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me''. Early life and career Chilton grew up in a musical family; his father, Sidney Chilton, was a jazz musician. A local band recruited the teenaged Chilton in 1966 to be their lead singer after learning of the popularity of his vocal performance at a talent show at Memphis's Central High School. This band was Ronnie and the Devilles, which was ...

Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Other notable scenes grew in Madchester, Manchester and Hamburger Schule, Hamburg, with many others thriving thereafter. In the 1980s, the use of the term "independent music, indie" (or " ...

Mouth By Mouth
''Mouth by Mouth'' is the third studio album by American rock band His Name Is Alive, released by 4AD in 1993. Recording While Karin Oliver sang lead vocals on nearly all of His Name Is Alive's songs up to this point, ''Mouth by Mouth'' used a wide variety of Warren Defever's associates on vocals. The lead vocalists on the album are as follows: Karen Neal sings tracks 1, 2 and 4; Karin Oliver sings tracks 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15 and 17; Chelle Marie Ehlers sings tracks 6 and 8; and Denise James sings tracks 11, 13, 14 and 16. Critical reception Many critics have described ''Mouth by Mouth'' as a more conventional effort by His Name Is Alive than their previous albums. Robert Christgau of ''The Village Voice'' reviewed the album favorably, describing it as " Big Star's ''Third'' as witting aesthetic strategy rather than failed attempt to make the world go away." In a retrospective review, AllMusic's Heather Phares described ''Mouth by Mouth'' as "a high point in His Name Is Alive's c ...
