Alvin Townley
Alvin Townley (born 1975) is an American author who writes about adventure, service, and inspiration. His most recent book, ''Defiant'', about prisoners of war and POW families during the Vietnam era, is his fourth nationally acclaimed work. He debuted with his best-selling book ''Legacy of Honor: The Values and Influence of America's Eagle Scouts'' (St. Martin's Press, New York, 2007), a story of his cross-country journey, during which he met Eagle Scouts from all walks of life. In 2009 Townley released ''Spirit of Adventure: Eagle Scouts and the Making of America's Future''. It features Ron Young, an Army helicopter pilot and former POW in the 2003 Gulf military action against Iraq who later became a contestant in the reality show '' The Amazing Race 7''. National Scout Jamboree
In Scouting, a jamboree is a large gathering of Scouts who rally at a national or international level. History The 1st World Scout Jamboree was held in 1920, and was hosted by the United Kingdom. Since then, there have been twenty-three other World Scout Jamborees, hosted in various countries, generally every four years. The 25th World Jamboree is to be held in Korea in 2023. There are also national and continental jamborees held around the world with varying frequency. Many of these events will invite and attract Scouts from overseas. Stephen Gerald Breyer ( ; born August 15, 1938) is a retired American lawyer and jurist who served as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1994 until his retirement in 2022. He was nominated by President Bill Clinton, and replaced retiring justice Harry Blackmun. Ketanji Brown Jackson, who was nominated by President Joe Biden, was his designated successor. Scouting, also known as the Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth movement employing the Scout method, a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports. Florida National High Adventure Sea Base
Sea Base, formerly known as Florida National High Adventure Sea Base, is a high adventure program base run by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) in the Florida Keys. Its counterparts are the Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico, the Northern Tier National High Adventure Bases in Ely, Minnesota as well as Manitoba and Ontario in Canada, and The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve near the New River Gorge National Park in southern West Virginia. Northern Tier National High Adventure Bases
Northern Tier High Adventure is a collection of high adventure bases run by the Boy Scouts of America in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of Minnesota, Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park and Canadian Crown Lands, Manitoba's Atikaki Provincial Wilderness Park, Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, and points beyond. Northern Tier is the oldest of the four National High Adventure Bases operated by the Boy Scouts of America; the others currently in operation are Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Florida Sea Base in the Keys, and The Summit in West Virginia. Programs at Northern Tier vary by season. In the summer, participants undertake wilderness canoe excursions.
