Alvares is a ski resort in the Iranian province of Ardabil. It is the second standard ski resort in Iran and is situated in the hamlet of Alvares, which is located 24 kilometers away from the city of Sarein at an elevation of 3,200 meters above sea level. Alvars ( fa, الوارس; also known as Ālvārsī, Alvāres, Alvārī, and Alvārsī) is a village in Alvars Rural District of the Central District of Sareyn County, Ardabil province, Iran Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, and also called Persia, is a country located in Western Asia. A surface lift is a type of cable transport for snow sports in which skiers and snowboarders remain on the ground as they are pulled uphill. While they were once prevalent, they have been overtaken in popularity by higher-capacity and higher-comfort aerial lifts, such as chairlifts and gondola lifts. Sareyn ( fa, سرعين, also Romanized as Sar‘eyn, Sara’eyn, Sar‘eīn, Sar ‘Eyn, and Sarein) is a city in the Central District of Sareyn County, Ardabil province, Iran, and serves as capital of the county. At the 2006 census, its population was 4,478 in 1,135 households. The following census in 2011 counted 4,440 people in 1,241 households. The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 5,459 people in 1,582 households. Sareyn is known for its hot springs. A ski is a narrow strip of semi-rigid material worn underfoot to glide over snow.
