Alvarado is a canton in the Cartago province of Costa Rica. The head city is in the Pacayas district. History Alvarado was created on 9 July 1908 by decree 28. Geography Alvarado has an area of km² and a mean elevation of metres. The defunct Atlantic railway line delineates a portion of the southern boundary of the oval-shaped canton, along with the Reventazón River. Alvarado is one of the 212 municipalities of the Mexican state of Veracruz. The municipality is part of the state's Papaloapan Region and its municipal seat is established at the homonymous city of Alvarado. History In 1816, the citizens of the village of San Cristóbal de Alvarado sought the designation of ''Town'' from Ferdinand VII, King of Spain. The King granted the village the title of Town on 8 September 1816 by Royal Decree, which had a cost of 92,800 maravedís. Almost two years later, on 5 September 1818 the same Ferdinand VII authorized the first Honorable ''Ayuntamiento'' or city council. On 3 October 1818, the first City Council was established with Tomás Hondal serving as first Mayor. Once the Independence War was over, the State enacted its own Constitution in which the state territory was divided in 4 departments and 12 cantons. Alvarado I (former La Risca project) is a large solar thermal power station in Alvarado, province of Badajoz, in Extremadura, Spain. Construction on the plant commenced in December 2007 and was completed in July 2009, when commercial operations began. Built by the Spanish company Acciona Energy, it has an installed capacity of and lays next to the La Florida solar thermal power station. The facility is built on a site with a solar resource of , producing an estimated of electricity per year (an average power of 12 MW). The plant uses parabolic trough technology, and is made up of 768 solar thermal collectors, with an output temperature of , transferred with Biphenyl and Diphenyl oxide heat transfer agents. A second facility, Alvarado II, is currently on the proposal stage. It is planned to be constructed in the same area as Alvarado I. Alvarado, California
Alvarado (formerly, New Haven) is a former settlement in and former county seat of Alameda County, California, now part of Union City. It was located north-northwest of downtown Newark. In 1851, Henry C. Smith founded the town of New Haven, named after his father's home town of New Haven, Connecticut. In 1853, the town amalgamated with a nearby town called Alvarado, and became the county seat of the newly formed Alameda County. Alvarado was named for Juan Alvarado, Mexican Governor of California from 1836 to 1842. The first post office opened in 1853. On January 13, 1959, Alvarado and Decoto voted to incorporate as Union City, California.
