Alvar Aalto Medal
The Alvar Aalto Medal was established in 1967 by the Museum of Finnish Architecture, the Finnish Association of Architects (SAFA), and the Finnish Architectural Society. The Medal has been awarded intermittently since 1967 when the medal was created in honour of Alvar Aalto. The award is given in recognition of a significant contribution to creative architecture. The award was given earlier at the Alvar Aalto Symposium, held every three years in Jyväskylä, Aalto's home town. Recently the ceremony has been organized on Aalto's birthday, February 3rd, today the Finnish national Day of Architecture. Finnish Association Of Architects
SAFA ( fi, Suomen Arkkitehtiliitto, sv, Finlands Arkitektförbund, en, Finnish Association of Architects) is the professional body representing architects in Finland. Overview The Association SAFA is a non-profit, professional organization open to all architects with a university degree from a Finnish university or equivalent qualification from another country. SAFA has 2906 members (61% male and 39% female). This accounts for approx 80% of all Finnish architects with a university degree. Membership is voluntary, and is not a condition for practising in the profession. In Finland no registration is required. SAFA has also 743 student members. Bijoy Jain
Bijoy Jain (born 1965) is an Indian people, Indian architect and Norman R. Foster Visiting Professor of architecture at Yale University. He received his M. Arch from Washington University in St Louis, USA in 1990. He then worked in Richard Meier office at Los Angeles and London between 1989 and 1995. He returned to India in 1995 and founded his own firm ''Studio Mumbai''. His works have been presented in many venues including the Alvar Aalto Symposium, the Architectural League of New York and the Canadian Centre for Architecture, which holds several of his project archives. He was also a finalist in the Agha Khan Awards 2010 Cycle. Zhang Ke (; born 1970) is a Chinese architect. Zhang Ke is a graduate of Tsinghua University in Beijing and the Harvard Graduate School of Design at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. In 2001, he founded his studio ' (标准营造). Fuensanta Nieto
Fuensanta Nieto de la Cierva (born 18 April 1957) is a Spanish architect. She is known for her work as a partner of Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos, a firm which she co-founded in 1984. Fuensanta Nieto studied at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Madrid. From 1986 to 1991 she was co-director of the architectural journal ARQUITECTURA, published by the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid. She is a recipient of the Alvar Aalto Medal, the firm Nieto Sobejano having been given this award in 2015. Rogelio Salmona
Rogelio Salmona (April 28, 1929 – October 3, 2007) was a French Colombian architect. He was noted for his extensive use of red brick in his buildings and for using natural shapes like spirals, radial geometry and curves in his designs. During the latter part of his life, Salmona gained renown thanks to awards like the first prize at the 1986, 1988, and 1990 Colombian Architecture Biennials, and the Alvar Aalto Medal in 2003. His works are highly representative of Colombian architecture at the end of the twentieth century. Alvar Aalto
Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto (; 3 February 1898 – 11 May 1976) was a Finnish architect and designer. His work includes architecture, furniture, textiles and glassware, as well as sculptures and paintings. He never regarded himself as an artist, seeing painting and sculpture as "branches of the tree whose trunk is architecture." Aalto's early career ran in parallel with the rapid economic growth and industrialization of Finland during the first half of the 20th century. Many of his clients were industrialists, among them the Ahlström-Gullichsen family, who became his patrons.
