Altenmarkt-Zauchensee
Zauchensee is a place in the Austrian municipality of Altenmarkt im Pongau, located in the state of Salzburg. Zauchensee is known for its ski resort and as a venue for the Alpine Ski World Cup. Location Zauchensee, named after the lake of the same name, is the southernmost part of the municipality of Altenmarkt. It is the heart of the ski resort with hotels and ski lifts. The area is located between 1,339 (lake level) and 2,344 (Steinfeldspitze) metres above sea level. History The ski resort was first developed in the 1960s. The lift company was founded in 1964 and the first T-bar began operating in winter 1964/65. The ski resort was then further developed, as were transportation links between Altenmarkt and Zauchensee. The lift company was merged with the one in Radstadt-Altenmarkt in 1989. In 2006, the Seekarsee lake was first used as a reservoir for snowmaking for the ski slopes. Lindsey Vonn
Lindsey Caroline Vonn ( ; born October 18, 1984) is an American former World Cup alpine ski racer on the US Ski Team. She won four World Cup overall championships — second only amongst female skiers to Annemarie Moser-Pröll — with three consecutive titles in 2008, 2009, and 2010, plus another in 2012. Vonn won the gold medal in downhill at the 2010 Winter Olympics, the first one for an American woman. Renate Götschl
Renate Götschl (born 6 August 1975) is an Austrian former alpine ski racer. She is a two-time individual World Champion in the combined (1997) and downhill (1999), and has won a total of 9 World Championships medals. She also won two Olympic medals in 2002, the bronze medal in downhill and the silver medal in the combined. Career Götschl made her World Cup debut in 1993, on 14 March 1993, winning the slalom in Lillehammer, Norway. This was followed by more than 100 podium (top 3) results, including at least one win in four of the five disciplines; only a giant slalom win has eluded her, the best result in this discipline being a second place in Lienz in December 2003. Vreni Schneider
Verena "Vreni" Schneider (born 26 November 1964) is a retired ski racer from Switzerland. She is the most successful alpine ski racer of her country, the fourth most successful female ski racer ever (after Lindsey Vonn, Annemarie Moser-Pröll and Mikaela Shiffrin) and was voted "Swiss Sportswoman of the Century". Early life Schneider was born in Elm, the daughter of a shoemaker. Her mother died of cancer when Schneider was a teenager: as a result she put her ski career on hold and dropped out of school to look after the family home. The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is the top international circuit of alpine skiing competitions, launched in 1966 by a group of ski racing friends and experts which included French journalist Serge Lang and the alpine ski team directors from France (Honore Bonnet) and the USA ( Bob Beattie). Julia Mancuso
Marie Mancuso (born March 9, 1984) is a retired American World Cup alpine ski racer, Olympic gold medalist and podcast host. She won the giant slalom at the 2006 Winter Olympics, and was the silver medalist in both downhill and combined in 2010, and the bronze medalist in the combined in 2014. She has also won five medals (two silver and three bronze) at the World Championships and seven races in regular World Cup competition. Petra Kronberger
Petra Kronberger (born 21 February 1969, in Pfarrwerfen) is an Austrian former alpine skier, who participated in all disciplines. She was the first female alpine skier to win in all five World Cup events. Career Kronberger entered the World Cup circuit in the 1987/88 season. She gained several podiums and was expected to be a strong competitor at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary. She did not win any medals there, but she did give a good performance for an athlete still in her teen years: she finished sixth in the downhill and eleventh in the combined. Anja Sofia Tess Pärson (; born 25 April 1981) is a Swedish former alpine skier. She is an Olympic gold medalist, seven-time gold medalist at the World Championships, and two-time overall Alpine Skiing World Cup champion. Michaela Dorfmeister (born 25 March 1973) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Austria. Her specialities were both the downhill and the super-G disciplines, although she skied in and had success in giant slalom. Biography Born in Vienna, Dorfmeister is the only daughter of a butcher by trade, and lived in Vienna until she was age six. She later studied at the Schladming ski academy, which has produced many of Austria's skiing greats. Dorfmeister raced her first international season in 1983 and entered her first World Cup race in 1991 at Serre Chevalier coming 26. Sankt Anton am Arlberg, commonly referred to as St Anton, is a village and ski resort in the Austrian state of Tyrol.
