The first four steam locomotives designated as Class B IX by the Royal Bavarian State Railways were procured from the locomotive works of '' Strousberg''. Hanomag (Hannoversche Maschinenbau AG, ) was a German producer of steam locomotives, tractors, trucks and military vehicles in Hanover. Hanomag first achieved international fame by delivering numerous steam locomotives to Finland, Romania and Bulgaria before World War I and making of first tractor Hanomag R26 in 1924 in Germany. In 1925, they added automobiles to their line, additionally moving in 1931 into the production of construction machinery. Since 1989, the company has been part of the Komatsu company. Under the Whyte notation for the classification of steam locomotives, represents the wheel arrangement with no leading wheels, four powered and coupled driving wheels on two axles and two trailing wheels on one axle. Royal Bavarian State Railways
The Royal Bavarian State Railways (''Königliche Bayerische Staats-Eisenbahnen'' or ''K.Bay.Sts.B.'') was the state railway company for the Kingdom of Bavaria. It was founded in 1844. The organisation grew into the second largest of the German state railways (after that of the Prussian state railways) with a railway network of 8,526 kilometres (including the Palatinate Railway or ''Pfalzbahn'') by the end of the First World War. The Kaiserliche Generaldirektion der Eisenbahnen in Elsaß-Lothringen or EL (English: General Directorate of the Imperial Railways in Alsace-Lorraine) were the first railways owned by the German Empire. They emerged in 1871, after France had ceded the region of Alsace-Lorraine to the German Empire under the terms of the Peace Treaty of Frankfurt following the Franco-Prussian War. The railways of the private ''Compagnie des chemins de fer de l'Est (CF de l'Est''; English: renchEastern Railway Company), with a total of trackage, were formally purchased from the French and then sold again to the German Empire. Bavarian B IX
The B IXs of the Royal Bavarian State Railways (''Königlich Bayerische Staatsbahn''), built from 1874, were the first express train Steam locomotive, locomotives in Kingdom of Bavaria, Bavaria. (N.B. The engines described here are not to be confused with the B IX steam engines built in 1870 and described under Alsace-Lorraine P 1, Bavarian B IX (1870).) As a result of the boiler being positioned low and the rear driving axle being under the outer Firebox (locomotive), firebox there was no longer any overhanging weight and the speed of the engine could be increased to 90 km/h. Tender (rail)
A tender or coal-car (US only) is a special rail vehicle hauled by a steam locomotive containing its fuel (wood, coal, oil or torrefied biomass) and water. Steam locomotives consume large quantities of water compared to the quantity of fuel, so their tenders are necessary to keep them running over long distances. A locomotive that pulls a tender is called a tender locomotive. Locomotives that do not have tenders and carry all their fuel and water on board the locomotive itself are called tank locomotives. A corridor tender is a locomotive tender with a passageway to one side, allowing crew changes on the fly.
