Alpine Skiing At The 2010 Winter Olympics – Men's Super-G
The men's super-G competition of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics was held at Whistler Creekside in Whistler, British Columbia, on Friday, February 19. The defending Olympic champion was Kjetil André Aamodt of Norway, since retired, and the reigning world champion was Didier Cuche of Switzerland. Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal was the defending World Cup Super-G champion and led the current season, ahead of Michael Walchhofer of Austria and Cuche. Svindal won the gold medal, Bode Miller of the United States took the silver, and the bronze medalist was U.S. teammate Andrew Weibrecht; Cuche was tenth and Walchhofer was 21st. Whistler Blackcomb
Whistler Blackcomb is a ski resort located in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. By many measures it is the largest ski resort in North America and has the greatest uphill lift capacity. It features the Peak 2 Peak Gondola for moving between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains at the top. With all of this capacity, Whistler Blackcomb is also often the busiest ski resort, often surpassing 2 million visitors a year. Whistler was originally conceived as part of a bid to win the 1968 Winter Olympics. Although the bid failed, construction started anyway and the resort opened for the first time in January 1966. Blackcomb mountain, originally a separate entity, opened for business in December 1980. Michael Walchhofer
Michael Walchhofer (born 28 April 1975) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Austria. Biography Walchhofer was born in Radstadt, Salzburg, Austria, and started his career in slalom, but then moved over to the speed events. During his career he won the World Cup season title in downhill three times, an Olympic silver medal, and one gold, two silvers, and a bronze medal at World Championships. Walchofer became the first to win the Bormio downhill three times in December 2010. His last World Cup race was the downhill at the finals in Lenzerheide in March 2011. Tobias Grünenfelder
Tobias Grünenfelder (born 27 November 1977 in Elm, Glarus, Elm) is a Switzerland, Swiss alpine skier. He is the 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010 Swiss champion in super-G. He also won national Downhill gold in 2007 and 2009. He participated at the World Championships in Vail (Colorado), Vail 1999, St. Moritz 2003 and Bormio 2005 and competed at the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics. Carlo Janka
Carlo Janka (born 15 October 1986) is a Swiss former alpine ski racer. Born in Obersaxen, in the canton of Graubünden, he had the winter sports facilities right in front of his home. Janka has won gold medals at both the Winter Olympics and the World Championships, as well as one World Cup overall title, one discipline title and also, one unofficial alpine combined title. In 2013, Janka set a World Cup speed record in the downhill part of the super combined event in Wengen, Switzerland. Erik Guay () (born August 5, 1981) is a Canadian former World Cup alpine ski racer. Racing out of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Guay won the World Cup season title in super-G in 2010 and was the world champion in downhill in 2011, as well as in the super-G in 2017. With 25 World Cup podiums, he is the career leader for Canada. Career Born in Montreal, Guay was five when he competed in his first ski race, and when he was twelve his father, himself a ski team coach, took him for professional coaching. Werner Heel
Werner Heel (born 23 March 1982) is an Italian former World Cup alpine ski racer. Born in Meran, Heel grew up in St. Leonhard in Passeier and currently resides in Meran, where he works as a police officer. Heel began skiing at the age of four, and his main disciplines are downhill and super-G. In order to be competitive in super combined he also practices slalom. In 2004 he won the Italian championship in super-G at Caspoggio. His career has been slowed by several injuries. Patrik Järbyn (born 16 April 1969 in Målsryd, Sweden) is a Swedish former World Cup alpine ski racer. Despite never having won a World Cup race, Järbyn has two individual World Championship medals. At the 1996 World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain, he won the silver medal in super-G. In 2007 at Åre, Sweden, he won the bronze medal in the downhill to become the oldest medalist ever at a World Championships.
