Alpine Skiing At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Men's Downhill
The men's downhill competition of the Beijing 2022 Olympics was held on Monday, 7 February, at Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre ski resort in Yanqing District. Beat Feuz of Switzerland was the champion, Johan Clarey of France was the silver medalist, and Matthias Mayer of Austria took the bronze. This was the first Olympic gold for Feuz and the first Olympic medal for Clarey. The men's downhill at the Olympics has yet to have a repeat champion. At the age of 41, Clarey became the oldest medalist in Olympic alpine skiing history. The 2018 Olympic champion, Aksel Lund Svindal, retired from competitive skiing. Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. Marco Odermatt (born 8 October 1997) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer who races in giant slalom and the speed disciplines. Odermatt competed for Switzerland at two Junior World Championships and three World Championships. Career At the 2016 Junior World Championships in Sochi, Odermatt won the bronze medal in super-G and the gold medal in giant slalom, which allowed him to make his World Cup debut in March 2016 in the giant slalom at the season finals in St. Moritz. At the 2018 Junior World Championships in Davos, Odermatt won an unprecedented five gold medals (combined, downhill, super-G, giant slalom, and team event). Max Franz
Max Franz (born 1 September 1989) is an Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer. Born in Klagenfurt, Carinthia, he focuses on the speed events of Downhill and Super-G. Career Franz made his World Cup debut in November 2009 at Lake Louise, Canada. Three years later, Franz made his first World Cup podium in November 2012, in the Downhill at Lake Louise. He is the cousin of alpine skier Werner Franz. In 2017, Franz took his first World Cup win in Val Gardena in the downhill. Dominik Paris
Dominik Paris (born 14 April 1989) is an Italian alpine ski racer, who specializes in speed events of downhill and super-G. He was the world champion in super-G, as the gold medalist in 2019 at Åre, Sweden. Racing career Paris made his World Cup debut in December 2008 and won his first World Cup race in late December 2012 in Italy, a dead-heat tie with Hannes Reichelt in the downhill on the Pista Stelvio at Bormio. James Crawford (alpine Skier)
James "Jack" Crawford (born 3 May 1997) is a Canadian World Cup alpine ski racer. He specializes in super-G, and also competes in giant slalom, downhill, and combined. Crawford made his World Cup debut in January 2016 in a super-G at Kitzbühel, Austria. He competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics, and the World Championships in 2019 and 2021, where he was fourth in the combined event. At the 2023 World Championships in Courchevel, Crawford won his first gold medal in Super-G. In January 2022, Crawford was named to Canada's Olympic team; he was fourth in the downhill, sixth in the super-G, and won the bronze medal in the combined. The ''Fédération internationale de ski et de snowboard'' (FIS; en, International Ski and Snowboard Federation) is the highest international governing body for skiing and snowboarding.
