Alpine Skiing At The 2010 Winter Olympics – Women's Combined
The women's super combined competition of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics was held at Whistler Creekside in Whistler, British Columbia, on February 18, 2010. The competition was originally scheduled to be held on February 14, 2010, but was postponed due to bad weather, which delayed previous events. One major change in this event for the 2010 Olympics was the switch from a traditional dedicated "combined" (K), taking place over one or two days and involving a downhill run and two slalom runs (as the combined had been since its reintroduction to the Olympics in 1988), to a one-day "super combined" (SC), consisting of a downhill run in the morning and one slalom run in the afternoon. Whistler Blackcomb
Whistler Blackcomb is a ski resort located in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. By many measures it is the largest ski resort in North America and has the greatest uphill lift capacity. It features the Peak 2 Peak Gondola for moving between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains at the top. With all of this capacity, Whistler Blackcomb is also often the busiest ski resort, often surpassing 2 million visitors a year. Whistler was originally conceived as part of a bid to win the 1968 Winter Olympics. Although the bid failed, construction started anyway and the resort opened for the first time in January 1966. Blackcomb mountain, originally a separate entity, opened for business in December 1980. Marie Marchand-Arvier (born 8 April 1985) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from France. Born in Laxou, she won a silver medal in the super-G Super giant slalom, or super-G, is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. Jessica Lindell-Vikarby (born 7 February 1984) is a retired Swedish World Cup alpine ski racer. Born in Huddinge, Stockholm County, she made her World Cup debut in October 2002, and has two World Cup victories and seven podiums. Lindell-Vikarby has competed in three Olympics and six World Championships. On 14 July 2015, she announced her retirement from alpine skiing. Leanne Smith (born May 28, 1987) is a World Cup alpine ski racer from the United States, and specializes in the speed events. Early life Born in North Conway, New Hampshire, Smith attended A. Crosby Kennett High School. She spent her skiing time on the local mountain, Cranmore, where the founder of the first skiing school in the United States, Hannes Schneider, arrived from Austria. Following Cranmore, she trained with the Mount Washington Valley Ski Team, coached by Kurt Simard. Smith graduated from high school in 2005, and then attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham and raced for the Wildcats in 2006. Alexandra Coletti (born 8 August 1983 in La Colle, Monaco) is a Monégasque alpine skier who competed for Monaco in the 2006 Winter Olympics. Elisabeth Görgl (born 20 February 1981) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from Austria. Born in Bruck an der Mur, Styria, Görgl made her World Cup debut in March 2000 and has reached World Cup podiums in all five alpine disciplines, with multiple victories in giant slalom, Super-G, and downhill. In January 2008, she won her first World Cup race in the giant slalom at Maribor, Slovenia. At the 2009 World Championships at Val d'Isère, Görgl won a bronze medal in super combined. Kaylin Richardson (born September 28, 1984) is a former American alpine ski racer. She competed in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, finishing 17th in the alpine skiing combined both times. Anna Veith (née Fenninger; born 18 June 1989) is an Austrian former alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist. She was the overall World Cup champion for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
