Alphonso T. Clearwater
Alphonso Trumpbour Clearwater (September 11, 1848 – September 23, 1933) was an American lawyer and judge from Kingston, New York. Life Clearwater was born on September 11, 1848, in West Point, New York, the son of Isaac Clearwater and Emily Baoudoin. He was of Dutch and Huguenot ancestry. Clearwater attended the 29th Street Grammar School in New York City and the Kingston Academy in Kingston. He studied law in Kingston under Judge Augustus Schoonmaker and Senator Jacob Hardenbergh. He was admitted to the bar in 1871, after which he began practicing law and became connected with a number of important cases tried in Ulster County. In 1877, he was elected district attorney of Ulster County. He was re-elected district attorney in 1880 to 1883. In 1889, he was elected County Judge of Ulster County. West Point, New York
West Point is the oldest continuously occupied military post in the United States. Located on the Hudson River in New York, West Point was identified by General George Washington as the most important strategic position in America during the American Revolution. Until January 1778, West Point was not occupied by the military. On January 27, 1778, Brigadier General Samuel Holden Parsons and his brigade crossed the ice on the Hudson River and climbed to the plain on West Point and from that day to the present, West Point has been occupied by the United States Army. The New York Academy of Medicine (the Academy) is a health policy and advocacy organization founded in 1847 by a group of leading New York metropolitan area physicians as a voice for the medical profession in medical practice and public health reform. The early leaders of the academy were invested in the reform movements of the day and worked to improve public health by focusing on the living conditions of the poor. In 1866, the academy was instrumental in the establishment of the Metropolitan Board of Health, the first modern municipal public health authority in the United States and the precursor of today's Department of Health. Charles Seymour Whitman (September 29, 1868March 29, 1947) was an American lawyer who served as the 41st Governor of New York from January 1, 1915, to December 31, 1918. An attorney and politician, he also served as a delegate from New York to the 1916 Republican National Convention. He had previously served as deputy and New York County District Attorney, in addition to state judge. William Sulzer (March 18, 1863 – November 6, 1941) was an American lawyer and politician, nicknamed Plain Bill Sulzer. He was the 39th Governor of New York and a long-serving congressman from the same state. Sulzer was the first, and to date only, New York governor to be impeached and the only governor to be convicted on articles of impeachment. He broke with his sponsors at Tammany Hall, and they produced convincing evidence that Sulzer had falsified his sworn statement of campaign expenditures.
