Alon Hazan
Alon Hazan ( he, אלון חזן; born 14 September 1967) is an Israeli former footballer and manager who manages the senior Israel national team. As a player, he played as a midfielder. Biography Alon Hazan was raised in Ashdod, Israel, to an observant Masorti Jewish family. Outside of football he studied for a degree in politics. Club career Hazan spent most of his playing career in Israel, but did spend 18 months with English club Watford, with whom he achieved two promotions – from Division Two to the English Premier League. In 1999 Hazan scored in the penalty-shootout semi-final play-off against Birmingham City to put Watford into the play-off final against Bolton Wanderers, which they won 2–0 at Wembley, to earn promotion to the Premier League. He turned home to Israel, for personal reasons, before he could play a part in the top tier of English football. Ashdod
Ashdod ( he, ''ʾašdōḏ''; ar, أسدود or إسدود ''ʾisdūd'' or '' ʾasdūd'' ; Philistine: 𐤀𐤔𐤃𐤃 *''ʾašdūd'') is the sixth-largest city in Israel. Masortiim
Masortim ( he, מסורתיים, lit. "traditional eople, also known as ''Shomrei Masoret'', , "upholders of tradition") is an Israeli Hebrew term of self-definition, describing Jews who perceive and define themselves as neither strictly religious (''dati'') nor secular (''hiloni''). Their affinity is mainly to mohels and rabbis of Orthodox Judaism (for their brit milah, bar mitzvah, and weddings), and is the affinity of around a third of the Jewish population in Israel. Group Masortim observe a number of ''minhagim'' and several basic religious commandments that are the most recognizable symbols of the Jewish tradition. The 1992–93 Israel State Cup ( he, גביע המדינה, ''Gvia HaMedina'') was the 54th season of Israel's nationwide football cup competition and the 39th after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. The competition was won by Maccabi Haifa who had beaten Maccabi Tel Aviv 1–0 in the final. By winning, Maccabi Haifa qualified to the 1993–94 European Cup Winners' Cup, entering in the qualifying round. Israel State Cup
The Israel State Cup ( he, גביע המדינה, ''Gvia HaMedina''), is a knockout cup competition in Israeli football, run by the Israel Football Association (IFA). The State Cup was first held in 1928 as the People's Cup. Because it involves clubs of all standards playing against each other, there is the possibility for "minnows" from the lower divisions to become "giant-killers" by eliminating top clubs from the tournament, although lower division teams rarely reach the final. The current holders of the State Cup are the Israeli Premier League club Hapoel Haifa, who beat Beitar Jerusalem in the 2018 final on May 9, 2018. The 1985–86 Toto Cup Leumit was the 2nd season of the third most important football tournament in Israel since its introduction. It was held in two stages. The Israel Toto Cup ( he, גביע הטוטו, ''Gvia Ha'Toto'') is an association football tournament that features clubs in the two highest divisions in Israel: the Israeli Premier League ( Ligat Ha'Al), and the second division Liga Leumit. From 1999 to 2009, the tournament was also open to clubs from the third division, until the cancellation of Liga Artzit. The Toto Cup is the third most important competition in Israeli football after the Israeli Premier League and the Israeli State Cup. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. Premier League
The Premier League (legal name: The Football Association Premier League Limited) is the highest level of the men's English football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the English Football League (EFL).
