Almaguin Spartans
The Almaguin Spartans are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in South River, Ontario. They play in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). They were originally the Mattawa Voyageurs of Mattawa, Ontario. History The Voyageurs were announced as a team in spring 2011. On September 16, 2011, the team played its first game, at home, against the Bobcaygeon Bucks. The Voyageurs lost the game in a shootout 5–4. On September 18, at home again, the Voyageurs picked up their first win, 5–4 in overtime over the Algoma Avalanche. In July 2014, the team was approved for relocation to South River, Ontario, where they became the Almaguin Spartans. In March 2015, Myles Pepin was promoted from assistant coach and was named the team's new head coach. During the 2018 playoffs, the Spartans swept their first three playoff series with nine straight wins before losing two games to the St. George Ravens in the final series. South River, Ontario
South River is a village on Highway 124 near Algonquin Park in the Almaguin Highlands region of Parry Sound District of Ontario, Canada. It is about halfway between North Bay "ON-11 S: 40 min." and Huntsville "ON-11 N: 45 min." or a 3-hour drive (300 km) north from Toronto. "ON-400 N and ON-11 N: 284 km, 3 hours 0 min. Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks
The West Nipissing Lynx are a junior ice hockey team based in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks were announced in summer 2010. The Lumberjacks replaced the folded Nipissing Alouettes, who left the GMHL in 2009. On September 10, 2010, the Lumberjacks played their first game against the Elliot Lake Bobcats in Elliot Lake. The Bobcats won the game 7–2. On September 12, 2010, the Lumberjacks played on the road against the Powassan Dragons and earned their franchise's first victory with a 5–2 win. The New Tecumseth Civics are a Canadian Junior ice hockey team based in Alliston, Ontario. They play in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). Bradford Rattlers
The Bradford Rattlers are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based out of Bradford, Ontario, and members of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League. The Rattlers, then known as the Bradford Bulls, were bought out towards the end of the 2005–06 season by a local group of investors for the purpose of moving the team up to Junior "A" from the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League. History The Bradford Vasey Juniors were founded in 1971 as they joined the South-Central Junior "D" Hockey League. The league soon became the Central Junior "C", then the Mid-Ontario Junior "C", and finally after merging with the Georgian Junior "C" league became the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior "C" Hockey League. The Kingsville Kings are a junior ice hockey team based in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada. They are members of the South Division of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). The Kings were founded in 2015 and joined the GMHL to compete in the 2015–16 season. The club plays their home games at Kingsville Arena Complex. History The Kingsville Kings was announced to the public in summer 2015 with local Tom Schinkelshoek named the team president. The Kings started their first season with a lengthy undefeated streak. The Bracebridge Blues were a Canada, Canadian junior ice hockey, Junior ice hockey team based in Bracebridge, Ontario, Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Phantoms were announced on April 14, 2012, by the GMHL. In 2014, after a rough season and some ownership woes, the team was supposed to move out of the GMHL and into the rival Canadian International Hockey League. The GMHL ownership stepped in and stopped the move. In April 2014, the ownership of the team was changed by the league and the team became the Bracebridge Blues. Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League
The Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) is a Canadian developmental junior ice hockey league. The league has primarily had teams in the Greater Toronto Area, Central Ontario, Northeastern Ontario, and Quebec. In 2019, they added three teams from Alberta. As of December 2019, the league's alumni page lists 889 players from 2006 to 2019 who graduated from the GMHL to play for NCAA colleges, various professional leagues, major junior teams, or represented their country in various IIHF World Championships. The Orangeville Ice Crushers were a Junior ice hockey, junior ice hockey team based in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Orangeville Americans were announced in the spring of 2011 with the roster to be composed of only American players.
