Alma Sonne
Alma Sonne (March 5, 1884 – November 27, 1977) was a general authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1941 until his death. Sonne was born in Logan, Utah Territory. He graduated from Brigham Young College in Logan and entered the banking business. From 1910 to 1912, Sonne was a missionary for the LDS Church in England. He and seven other missionaries purchased tickets to travel back to America on the RMS ''Titanic'', but due to a situation with one of the missionaries, Sonne canceled all eight tickets. Sonne eventually became the president of the Cache Stake of the church. He worked as a banker. In 1941, Sonne became one of the first five individuals to hold the calling of Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in the LDS Church. Logan, Utah
Logan is a city in Cache County, Utah, United States. The 2020 census recorded the population was 52,778. Logan is the county seat of Cache County and the principal city of the Logan metropolitan area, which includes Cache County and Franklin County, Idaho. The Logan metropolitan area contained 125,442 people as of the 2010 census and was declared by Morgan Quitno in 2005 and 2007 to be the safest in the United States in those years. Logan also is the location of the main campus of Utah State University. History The town of Logan was founded in 1859 by settlers sent by Brigham Young to survey for the site of a fort near the banks of the Logan River. Mission President
Mission president is a priesthood leadership position in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). A mission president presides over a geographic area known as a mission and the missionaries serving in the mission. Depending on the particular mission, a mission president may also be the presiding priesthood leader of some or all Latter-day Saints within the geographic boundaries of the mission. Mission presidents are ordained high priests of the church. Mormon Missionaries In Europe
Mormons are a religious and cultural group related to Mormonism, the principal branch of the Latter Day Saint movement started by Joseph Smith in upstate New York during the 1820s. After Smith's death in 1844, the movement split into several groups following different leaders; the majority followed Brigham Young, while smaller groups followed Joseph Smith III, Sidney Rigdon, and James Strang. Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, commonly shortened to Assistant to the Twelve or Assistant to the Twelve Apostles, was a priesthood calling in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints between 1941 and 1976. As the title of the calling suggests, men who held this position assisted the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in fulfilling their priesthood responsibilities. Assistants to the Twelve were general authorities, and were generally assigned by the Twelve Apostles to preside over and speak at stake conferences; re-organize stakes; tour missions; and assist in the direction of worldwide missionary work. Like counselors in the First Presidency, Assistant to the Twelve was not a distinct priesthood ''office''—rather, it was a ''calling'' that any worthy high priest could be asked to fill.
